Tone2 Nemesis is released!

What I find weird, is it's capable of actually new sounds, but the presets are all old styles, Tone2 typical sounds, trance stuff.
But if it was patched weird I guess it wouldn't sell, and Tone2 are pretty agressive.

Yeah Theo, this thing absolutely rocks for plucks, and the Arps are class! Lots of extra options in there.TheoM wrote:So i started to fall out of love with nemesis a bit as after my topic yesterday as after all the others' posts, i was almost convinced maybe it just sounded the same as the other Tone 2 stuff after all.. Then i went through EVERY preset before today.. holy WOW! The stacks are the best i have ever heard, and the plucks are wicked for EDM. Vocals are great, arps and sequences full of story telling...just awesome..Rayblaster is way different to it also as i tested it back to back, then i went to saurus, which sounds *completely* different again. Saurus sounds true analog with none of the cpu hit (in fact it is overall a perfect synth, it is not possible to fault in any way, bass is strong, sound is warm, presets and fx perfect)..
So Nemesis is massively back on my radar again, especially with the 50 presets only for loyal tone 2 customers deal. I love exclusive sounds, means they are not heard everywhere.
I do wish they did a bundle deal.. I know they have an everything deal, but that's a thousand bucks
can't do that.
i think a rayblaster/nemesis combo, cause they are different and complement well, for $299 would be wicked as. !
I know I said this before, but I'm stoked about how much bass it can deliver too.
I actually missed the loyal customer deal because I bought it earlier.

I was about to download and demo it, but while I was working I thought I'd listen to the demo track first... what the? Hands down the worst sounding audio demo ever. Crazy bright and shrill... tweeter fry'n fun! Have the sound designers at Tone2 lost their high frequency hearing? Come on Tone2, I know you're capable of more than this. In today's packed virtual instrument world you have to sell me on the idea that installing your demo will be worth my time, and man this sure didn't.

Have to agree here. It seems overpriced to me. I went and bought it anyway, but I did feel that for that price, the synth should have been a bit more fleshed out. It's a competative market!Kindred wrote:Out of curiosity I clicked the "buy" logo and was greeted with the price...dear lord! I literally did a double-take. I don't think Tone2 has been keeping up with monitoring the price of the competition. This is a USD99-129 synth maximum.
No thanks.
Ideally I'd have liked:
- The global output LPF and HPF should be modulatable.
- Modulation between the two oscillator "lines" so one can FM the other.
- At least 4 if not 6 effects slots
- More modulators
Electrax on the other hand feels very fleshed out and you feel you're getting your money's worth.
On the other hand, I thought the presets in Nemesis were really cool. Some of those rhythm/drum presets are bonkers, some great programming going on there!

Hmmmm, it is not for me!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I think something went wrong with the Beat It render. Something sounds out of tune, or in the wrong key.

You're right Sendy, I think it's the bass line (wrong key)Sendy wrote:I think something went wrong with the Beat It render. Something sounds out of tune, or in the wrong key.

+1. Found a couple of nice basses but would put this synth into the $99 category. I mean in relation to this, something like Zebra or SynthMaster should be $499 IMO for its features - this is a kinda a silly comparison as this should be about its unique sound, not the flexibility. For $99 I would most probably get it for its basses and I actually like the 'Tone2 signature sound' on most patches.Sendy wrote:Have to agree here. I'd have a much easier time shelling out $200 if Tone2 switched development models and had a flagship synthesizer that I paid another $100 a year to update with new innovative features and that is all the while gradually refined. As it is I don't know that I want to invest that much money in yet another synth that will remain sort of half developed while they move on to their next thing. Tone2 has a similar approach to development as Sugar Bytes. Make it and forget it. I'd rather see them create a synth that could develop a loyal user base over time, something with some staying power that encouraged sound designers to make patches for it like with Massive or Zebra.
I like that they finally included a patch browser in this synth, but as usual it's only partially there. You can't filter by the meta tags for instance, e.g., polyphonic or neoFM. I'd also like to see meta like author name and notes added for each patch. The "Exit" button is poorly placed which is really an issue with the tabs. File, Config, Browse, Synth, and Shop (*sigh*) should be in their own menu at the top of the UI.
It needs an undo/redo. See Zebra and all FabFilter plugins.
Also, for great modulation implementations see Razor, Twin2 and Massive. Twin2 is easily my favorite for working with modulation. I only wish it had the range indicators around effected knobs like Razor does.

Yeah, that'd be cool alright... It would be great to see an update for Gladiator, but I still think it's one of the best around.Greg Houston wrote:I'd rather see them create a synth that could develop a loyal user base over time, something with some staying power that encouraged sound designers to make patches for it like with Massive or Zebra.

For Tone2's marketing stance there's a great saw in german: "jede Woche wird eine neue Sau durchs Dorf getrieben"

I am happy that Nemesis is finally released.
While the audio demos could be interesting too those who are interested in the synth should really have a look at the demo version of Nemesis themselves.
Every sound designer has it's own style which sometimes maybe does not match that of some other people (while other s do like it...). Anyway with more than 1000 factory sounds there should me more than enough nice presets for everyone.
More should come in the future with additional soundsets.
Personally i had another important Betatest (+ sound design) for the Waldorf Pulse 2 at the same time (+ some other stuff) so this time only few presets (compared to e.g. Raybaster) included from me. There should follow some more with upcoming soundsets in the future.
The main difference of Nemsis (like already explained) to other FM synths is that it uses "real" FM which is not limited to certain waveforms but works with all kinds of waveforms for the carriers and modulators.
The additive style waveform editor was an idea i had in a discussion with Markus and Bastiaan, long before the Betatest started.
Besides the real Fm Nemsis has lots of other synthesis modes including phase distortion. Those synthesis modes more or less correspond to the "algorithms" in older FM synths but are more advanced. There is also a mode e.g. for adding Resonace or a Sub-Osc.

Played briefly with Nemesis last night. I can see the power, but am not totally convinced that "real" FM using arbitrary waveforms is something I will have much use for, versus manipulation of operators solely based on sinusoids and envelopes. One spends too much time struggling with inharmonics. I have a tough time picturing modulated sinusoids to begin with, based on the simplest FM circuits.
