I had some very bad times related to my mental state issues. Another thing I discovered was that my midi keyboard did some changes to some of the parameters which screwed up some knobs, without me knowing it.

I'm making music at the moment and it sounds really good. Reason sound is able to sell, END OF STORY. It was my own fault, sorry for making this thread.
Provocative thread topics are the bread and butter of KVR, so I wouldn't worry about it. We all contribute to how it flows, be it calm and serene or rocky and treacherous. :)

Showcasing well produced Reason tracks is a more fun direction for the thread to go in anyway than endless debates over what people think it can't do. Truly creative people usually spend more energy leveraging the potential of things, rather than dwell on their limitations. It's a really effective procrastination technique though. ;)

Did you check out Mikkas' most recent remix? All done in Reason:

The music is like taking a bad song and making it truly awful,
but production-wise, it does sound good.

Not my kind of music either, but from a production standpoint in this genre it's top notch. Considering how often we have to hear our songs as we write them, how can their ear drums withstand that much high frequency thrashing?

Yeah, this kind of sound appears to be really popular at the moment. After Skrillex's version of dubstep became mainstream it seems like all the dance producers now feel the need to graft pieces of it onto all the other genres of music too. I keep hearing chopped up FM shredded wobbly bass sounds everywhere now. What is this supposed to be anyway? Electro? EDM? Progressive Vocal Trance? Hardstyle Euro pop? I feel old. :hihi:

To me, it alludes to deep psychological issues.
Or just ADHD.

Yup I already checked Mikkas out few days ago - it was good.
Here's my latest tune I made: http://www.reflexion-x.com/music.html

DAWs at their core all sound the same. The fx and instruments change but that's another story all together and of course those sound different. Reason sounds fine. I like Maschine better though

yep, but despite the DAW somebody use. it's a remix, i dont know which stems he got for the job. also i dont know if any other applications were used for editing of the voice stems etc.

this say nothing about the quality/not quality of the DAW imo.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

The original mix is quite frankly unrecognizable in comparison, so I'm pretty sure the only similarity between both mixes are the vocal stems. Most of his songs sound just like this though, so he clearly has a strong desire to perpetually punish his ears. The larger point is that there's no such thing as "DAW quality". It really just comes down to convenience features, the plugins you choose and how you use them.

reason sound sells in more new age category where the chanting and cleansing mean something. Chants and a clearer path much be related to best get the alignment of the 1's and 0's to perfection.

I was just kidding. This theme was a debate on the science forum. :D

Davias wrote:EDIT : I will even add something that shows even better my feeling about this. I used to be a Reason fanboy actually. So my perception was biased toward Reason at the time. I already told this story somewhere else on the forum but it is the perfect place. At the time (something like ten years before), I was with my friend using Reason and loving it (came from a DOS tracker, we were amazed by the gorgeous sound of Reason washed in FX and the lively synths comparing to dry pitched samples). Some day, just out of curiosity we tried FL Studio demo (Fruity Loops at the time), and at first glance were not impressed at all, ugly GUI, toyish feeling, the synths GUI were not appealing (we were young :D). But as soon as we wrote a 4 bar beat with a stupid synthesized bassline (a saw and a filter) and it was sounding so full, so gorgeous comparing to our countless hours projects in Reason ^^
This is actually really interesting to me because you mentioned having started on trackers, and you are describing exactly my feeling about trackers: something very hard to define is missing in a sound when played back through a tracker, and this includes the top of the line Renoise. i got into a forum discussion about this problem at Renoise's site, and unintentionally started a huge mess... where exactly one person out of twenty said they agreed with me and everyone else was doing null tests and crap to prove that i was imagining it.
