We had to fail 2/3 times before we arrived to the current UI, it was more difficult than it looks now. I'm really happy about the positive reactions!

What's new:
  • Mid band offers two "Q" options
  • Fifth EQ model called "Japanese" (green)
  • Two new out-stages ("Toasted" and "Excited")
  • High-pass filter (18dB/oct, as before + a new 12dB/oct "Bump" mode)
  • Low-pass filter (6dB/oct vs 12dB/oct)
  • New parametric tilt filter with optional "V" filter mode
  • EQ magnitude plot (intentionally not real-time)

Fabien, could you explain a bit more about the "V" mode on the Tilt filter, and perhaps a screen shot of the EQ magnitude plot? So looking forward to giving this a try!

Thanks Fabien, that V mode sure will be handy as an "auto loudness/smiley curve" device! :)

Tilt mode could make the old TAL Tilt (now called USE) or even Softube's Tonelux Tilt clone obsolete.

A bit more info on the Magnitude Plot mode would be nice.

Is that some sort of visual representation as add-on or something?
(sorry, I only know of "magnitude" in terms of measurements in VSTPlugin Analyser)

The plugin allows to check the frequency magnitude in a static manner, and also allows to export images, such as those above. It's a small helper, conceptionally very similar to our online help. A simple snap-shot of the current frequency response.

Nice idea Fabien, could be very useful.

Hm... so it's a small built into "VST Plugin Analyser". It's good for people that don't trust host recall capabilities (not looking at a particular host). Or to those that are oldschool and write down the settings from the mix console.

The Gentleman's Edition is payware, the standard edition is free.
I don't get it... why is it not free ? I paid you guys TWICE (the first was : I paid you a visit ; the second was : I paid attention).

Is there a cut-rate price ?...

:D

Do I have to express how impatient I am to have it in my arsenal ? SlickEQ is my already go-to (haven't used any other one since it got released), what a nice "upgrade" !

So... since the talk about it is fairly low, and the beta testers have permission to leak some infos...

The current set price is about 30 EUR (according to OANDA Exchange Rate converter, roughtly 41 USD).

There is one catch however:
The demo is actually "SlickEQ", and the "Gentlemen Edition" license turns into NFR after purchase. So... you can't sell your license.

I'm currently still testing in Cubase and Wavelab - so far no drastic issues on my end (I did no heavy lifting yet - that's something for tomorrow/Monday). But unfortunately there still won't be a VST3 version due to the problems that came up with the free version in Wavelab (Steinberg is on the issue - but I still got no feedback on that end!). At least it's not in the current bundles.

I definitely dig the new built in Magnitude Frequency Plot as bonus tool. Wish it would also drop the knob values however. For total recall, if something is messed up or so. But it's a nice feature to check what your frequency plot is, if you don't trust your ears - so I'm curious how other developers will respond to this. At least those that focus on plain parametric EQ's without a freeform type GUI.

The new "Japanese Mode" is very surgical. The push/pull behavior of the mid band is absolutely not distracting or much of a downside IMO (it's a musical EQ after all). Some people will definitely get a use out of the LP and HP, and others might definitely abuse the "tilt modes" for even "more" fairy dust. So even if you have three bands "only" (plus HP/LP and the Tilt function), you can do a lot of stuff with it.

I'm sure that, if there are no further drastic issues, there will be a release within the next following two weeks. But I'm not in the dev team - so I can't answer to that question.

That's about it for the time being - a couple of hours of sleep, then it's back to testing.
