Yesterday there has been 160 patches and today there are actually 192 patches although it seems that only 2 patches of SoundGoddess are added. :?:
If you notice any duplicate patches please let me know...Maybe you were overlooking the wagtunes toms? He might have pm'd those to me directly instead of posting them here. We should have 192 legit patches though :)
@SoundGoddess: Thanks for the update and the new patches. Supersaw chords sounds pretty cool :)
Cool, I'm glad you like them :)

I haven't heard back from Bulent yet so I guess I'll send him the updated file.

Don`t worry. Yes we have 192 patches :)

The Toms by Wagtunes had been already added when I count the patches yesterday. It seems that not all files are being recognized by windows and/or Synthmaster all the time. I have no explanation for this.

Bulent will be happy about all this work

Big thanks to Bulent!!! :)

Thanks for all the patches everyone! I've been putting them to good use. Can't wait till the player bank is released so I can spend more time than 15 minute sessions and can't reload what I worked on. I created some really nice filtered breaks where it was pretty much perfect, all but the reverb gate on a percussion hit which I would've liked to edit further. Didn't notice it in my haste and when I listened to it the next morning by impulse I went to open up the project and tweak some more :hihi: But alas, no can do :tu: Cheers

On a side note, anyone come across any free verbs that are particularly good on drums, ie realistic. Are convolution reverbs aloud? Guess not cause they are kinda like samples, ie waveforms.

Convolution reverbs are allowed. The samples simulate spaces, not provide sound. I kinda like the tal dub 2 on drums. Freeverb 3 is the best all around reverb in my opinion, which can also be used on drums.

I won't be participating in the challenge, but I'd like to hank everyone for the patches! Ive had Synthmaster of awhile and it never really clicked with me as far as being comfortable to work with ( I hate having the Oscillator & Modulation sections at the bottom of the GUI). I wish all he participants good luck. This should be a great OSC.

I am using Poor Plate as an insert and TIla as a send for the Drums and for longer/deeper reverbs here and there - Mverb as an additional send. So far like the result and how it all blends in the mix. Hope I can finish this before the deadline.

Well, well, it's been a shile since my last OSC :) But this was too cool to pass, so here it is:

Thank you so much, all contributors, for making us Player users happy! Great work, especially Mojo and SoundGodess keeping everything together. I'm excited to hear and use the new sounds.

I'm certainly taking a different approach this time compared to OSC#72! With detailed tweaking out of the picture my focus is more on arrangement, composition and performance. My entry will probably (I have a back up plan if I fail :) ) be mostly "real" instruments, not synthesizer-driven so we'll see if I'm able to make it sound OK... I thought first about using the drums I managed to squeeze out of the player but they sound crap and are a mess to program so I'll put my trust in you benevolent patchmakers! Drum programming will still be hell of a chore with the track I'm making but I hope I'll make it through! (otherwise: backup-plan and a simple house track)
For performances I dragged my crappy MIDI guitar out of the closet. Pretty fun, and frustrating, to play with!

Still won't listen to any other entry until I've posted mine :)
Good luck everyone!

There's always Variety of Sound EpicVerb. In my opinion it's good for most uses but seems a bit unstable in 64bit hosts. In Reaper I get it to work if I run it in a dedicated process, don't know about other hosts.

Something is driving me crazy about Synthmaster. The course tune adjustment on the oscillators......is very difficult to get zeroed in.

Let's say I set it to +1 octave.....which is roughly +76.4
Screen Shot 2015-03-09 at 11.02.36 AM.png
Then I want to bring in another oscillator, and set it to +1 octave. Well if they are off by just 0.1 or 0.2 (even though they both say +1octave), it is horribly detuned. To the point where I'm realizing my whole song sounds dissonant. Why doesn't it just tune to whole semitones? It's really driving me crazy. It appears it does tune to semitones, but then has some give +/-

Has anyone else noticed this? Sure I can use my ears and try to tune everything by holding shift and manually adjusting by decimal points but that seems crazy I should have to do that.

Anyone else notice this? Am I missing something? A setting perhaps?

Thanks

@EDGEK8D ~ does your mouse have a scroll wheel? if you use that it will adjust by semitones.

Yes. SoundGoddess is correct. Use the scroll wheel on the mouse. I had the same problem. This makes a HUGE difference. Just one of many issues with the interface of this synth. I don't know about anyone else, but having spent about 25 hours with this over the last week, I still find it very frustrating to use. I would be interested to hear other experiences.

Thanks.

I'm not a huge fan of the UI either...I wish it had more visual feedback...something like Polysynth or Serum would be great, so you visually can see what your mappings are actually doing. I'm not that great at designing UI myself, but if enough of us can offer constructive criticism to KV then perhaps they can greatly improve the workflow for version 3.

Massive doesn't have the best synth engine but it certainly seems to get out of your way when you're designing, and with a glance you can visually see what is being modulated...with SM you have to page through the mod matrix and the add/multiply doesn't really make that much sense to me as to how much of the knob is being modulated, the colored outline on Massive however makes it very obvious.

So my suggestion to KV would be to study Polysynth/Serum/Massive and design a new UI that implements some visual feedback. But then I'm as visual as I am aural, whereas a lot of musicians may care less how ugly the interface is so long as they can make it sound good. Just IME a good workflow that gets out of your way and gives you visual feedback makes it easier to get into the creative flow.

I agree with the criticism of the interface. I generally prefer layouts that let you edit things together without having to tab away (like seeing all the oscillators at once. SynthMaster's strength of being one of the most sonically powerful synths I've encountered, also becomes it's weakness for potential sound designers. It is so deep that UI quirks which in other synths would be no issue or easily forgiven become sore spots. It's a shame because it sounds amazing and is one of my go-to synths. Because of the time involved in programming, I usually just modify presets which is ok but less fun. :)

Here are a few of my "favorite" ui pain points.
The imprecision in display readout when manipulating settings
No keyboard arrow key support for browsing presets.
A mod matrix that is very hard to read at a glance.
Assigning modulation routing=contextual submenus galore! Becomes tedious. There are betting routing ux patterns out there.
Easy controls and XY are only visible on the preset pages?
Interaction between modulation routings and set values of parameters are not easily discernible- like how much is that filter cutoff being affected by env2?
etc.

Just edited my track, added 4 more instances of Synthmaster Player, a tempo change at the end, and improved the mix (previous version had terrible mix).

Here's the result: https://soundcloud.com/krisl/reefius-osc73

All this using only factory presets from the free player!
