In case anyone is interested, Omni loads 2 in about 4 seconds with my 100% SSD DAW. That's good to hear the Falcon loads much faster.EvilDragon wrote:Faster than Omni. On my system: Falcon loads in about 4 seconds. Omni 2 loads in about 20 seconds (with the latest update).
No SSDs here.

FWIW: I'm not considering myself a tone2 plugin sound expert, but I can says that I don't like any of them soundwise. The "Tone2 sound" usually makes my ears hurt.quantum7 wrote:Sounds like Tone2 stuff? D'oh!!!fluffy_little_something wrote: Judging from the video it sounds quite polished and plasticky, almost a bit sterile at times (a bit like Tone2 stuff),That's not what I want to hear because I really don't like the sound of Tone2 stuff at all....and I've spent good time demoing all their instruments. There is just something about the sound that turns me off for some reason that can be hard to put into words. I really wish Falcon had a demo. Since it is iLok protected, you would think that a timed demo wouldn't be that difficult to release. Simon's contribution though, gives me hope for Falcon.
This may have to do with them focusing on the shrill and piercing preset wise.
But I really like Falcon.
To me it sounds very warm, "round" full and rich. My ears like it.
A lot.
With that said:
Many of the Falcon presets have effects on them, many use a maximiser as the last master FX. That of course makes them sound pretty and intense when going through them. For real use, you may want to disable some of it.
This may create the "polished" feel.
But then again: there is such a vast range of oscillators and FX available, from extremely simple (a volume "effect"
Everything I tried so far sounded good to me.
My Neumann monitors love it and my sub is getting a good workout
Cheers,
Tom

I want to like this Falcon thing. It's very tempting... But like some others mentioned, at this price not offering a demo is a sin. Same as Omnisphere, which is the exact reason I never got it.
Who buys a car without trying it? That’s one big bet really.

Hopefully they will have in-store demos set up soon and equally be able to train the sales staff adequately enough to answer questions you find while playing it.Neon Breath wrote:I want to like this Falcon thing. I'm usually sold on a synth by its sound and its features. And like I said, in this case, it's purely mercenary. A money making purchase.Neon Breath wrote:I want to like this Falcon thing. But what if I get it and it doesn't run on my particular setup? I mean it literally crashes and doesn't start up without crashing.
What? I'm out $229?
That's crazy. I wouldn't care so much if it's a $20 or even a $35 plug. But to have to spend $229 and pray the thing works or be out that much money is insane.

But unless you're running a PC from 1978 with Windows 1 you can be assured this thing will boot without crashing, that's what they call Beta-testing.

I'd be very surprised if you didn't get a refund if it doesn't work for you.wagtunes wrote:I'm usually sold on a synth by its sound and its features. Could people please use less forum space and time moaning and bitching about stuff like prices. You're adding absolutely nothing to the conversation and you're forcing me to vent and do the same thing. No-one is forcing you to buy anything.
Don't like the price? Don't buy it.
Don't like that there's no demo? Don't buy it.
Don't like iLok? Don't buy it.
And shut up about it so this thread is easier to read for those looking for real info and user opinions.

I know I'm probably going to get this but I'm trying to get over my annoyance at their dodgy practice of just giving it a new name to pretend it is not Mach Five v 4 and getting out of offering an upgrade path. At the very least I think they owe us an explanation instead of ignoring MacFive users completely as if we don't exist.

For the most part, this is correct.Sampleconstruct wrote:But unless you're running a PC from 1978 with Windows 1 you can be assured this thing will boot without crashing, that's what they call Beta-testing.
Things are still machine system and OS dependent though.
We see that very regularly in the forums here.
Oh, and "refunds due to not working on your particular system" is dependent on the company you're dealing with. Also seen regularly on forums.

Who are you for telling people what to say and discuss, a forums police or soldier or something ?

Folks please relax, it's been a relatively civil thread up to here, why not keep it that way.

I downloaded and demo'd AIR Loom. Thank God it had a demo. It crashed my DAW so badly that I had to reinstall my DAW. Because of that, I will never buy an AIR product.Sampleconstruct wrote:But unless you're running a PC from 1978 with Windows 1 you can be assured this thing will boot without crashing, that's what they call Beta-testing.
Point is, no, things don't always work. I've learned this painfully with video games. Know how many "tested" games don't work because it doesn't like a particular video or sound card?
Omni cost me almost nothing because I sold a bunch of instruments that were laying in my basement collecting dust. So I was willing to take the chance that it wouldn't work. Fortunately, it did. But there is no guarantee.
The person who said "Well if there's no demo and you don't like it, don't get it" that's not the point. What company sells a high end product without a demo given the possibility that it may not run on your particular system? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
