It is just me or is the potential of using several waveforms per oscillator severely limited due to the free-running nature of the oscillators? When mixing several waveforms the result is just an inconsistent, messy waveform.
I think the sonic flexibility would be extended if there were retrigger and phase controls on the tweaks page...

Here is a remake / cover of San Francisco Hi-NRG synthesiser disco classic ’Menergy’ from 1981 by one of my favourite artists Patrick Cowley (who sadly passed away too young). Since he used both the Prophet-5 and Pro-One for almost all of the synthesiser sounds in his tracks I thought it would be fun to try to recreate this track by the u-he versions of said synthesisers. I set a rule not to use any external effects on the synth parts but only the built-in effects included in the Repro-1 and Repro-5, so no external reverbs, delays, choruses, equalizers etc used. This proved to be a bit of a challenge since Cowley was a heavy user of phasers, but i found by automating the Res-Q effect I could get a passable phaser style effect. Oh and the original has vocals too but as you might guess I didn’t bother try recreating those (though I snuck in a bit of vocoder style speech like in the original)
Now I didn’t try to match the sounds 1:1, not sure that is even possible since Patricks heavy use of effects, also there are couple of different versions of the track with slightly different sounds in each of them. But I tried to get reasonably close and I think the spirit is there.
Drums are done separately (though there’s few electronic percs and noise snare from Repro-1) and there’s some slight compression / limiting and equalising on the master (though nothing major really). ¨

Well, it was no criticism of Repro, I am sure the original worked the same way.
Still, I know the huge difference retriggering and phase can make from another synth...

Yep. I really like it, it is so easy to layer two synths for instance, that was a pita with Mulab

Yeah, I tried to like Mulab a few times over the years, it never clicked with me. It seems the best use of Mulab is when you use it's internal MUX synth, but that doesn't click with my brain well either. I am not sure whether Repro would be worth it for me. Basically I would only use it for brass, where it sounds great due to its somewhat metallic, harsh sound character. Conversely, that's why I don't like its pad sounds.
One thing I really miss is a third envelope as I use pitch modulation a lot.

Hm, I see a rather messy signal on the oscilloscope when I activate more than one waveform.Chris-S wrote:Checked the waveform in a scope and can not see an inconsistend waveform.
I think the per-oscillator waves are synched in RP1 and RP5.
The triangle works basically like a sub as it is too quiet compared to the other two waveforms, so one doesn't hear its character as such.
