It was orders direct from the control tower, communicated with those table tennis bat style things.

TL;DR:- Conflict of interest. That's the very thing that screws up a lot of stuff. It's why we can't have nice things"

I know they can pull it off, they just don't frigging wanna.
Yes, that’s it. IK actually developed the technology in the 1950s, but Big Guitar swooped in and shut it down. :borg:

Guitar sim VSTs are killing guitarists.

What does @benjamind think about Pianoteq's modelled guitar?

And you know that a trademark and starting work on a specific project aren't the same thing, but I understand how you might want to do your best to make sure the data looked as "shameful" as possible. You did a fantastic (yet seemingly a bit misleading) job of it, bravo. Developers are a finite resource which must be balanced with running a business and keeping it running with optimal growth and all that... "a couple university students" don't have to worry about all that and can pursue passion projects as they will. I hope what they made is cool and useful and serves whatever purpose they intended it to serve.

What have IK's best minds been put to instead?
Developing a new subscription model?

I mean, TONEX is pretty awesome. As a guitar player, that is a thousand times more valuable to me than a virtual guitar instrument.

They had probably 3 or 4 other classes with equally challenging projects at the same time. But I don't think it was a "passion project." I think it was a class project. So where's IK Multimedia's passion?

If the physical modeling guitar VST those students made is so great, then why the jonesing for IK to make one?

Because they did the basses so well, I guess.

But let's all forget about it, for now, for ever. There will be no MODO for guitars, and the longer we keep deluding ourselves otherwise, the longer wait for nothing. Time to move on, and Pianoteq have indeed released a beautiful nylon acoustic, and I am sure with how good it sounds, that an electric version wouldn't be too far behind. I mean, they have acoustic pianos nailed completely nailed, and they have electric pianos.

So if they can do the acoustic they can sure do the electric, since it involves pickups instead of piezos/mics. It's not hard to go from an acoustic to an electric, since the only difference is the solid/hollow body, and the electronics.
