I don't agree they just discontinue synths or plugs! They did that before with A1. There must be at least some additional option for legacy plugs. Apple did better with Logic regarding this point.

A1 was made by Waldorf (Wolfram Franke). It's one of the examples where the issue was the license. Another example was reverb made by Waiio, Wiiso...? I can't recollect name of the company that did it.

Oh I remember unhappiness in psytrance community when VB-1 was discontinued. Almighty bassline machine was taken away by greedy corpo from poor hippies

Did they add any new sound content to Cubase 12? Looking at the "what's new" it doesn't seem so.

They added Felt Piano this time. It seems to be the only new sound content.

Yes it was by Waldorf. You are right. So it was about the license! Ok, I remember I was learning it and learning synthesis in general those days. Anyway, Retrologue is really an excellent synth. What I like most about Steingberg synths is when you change presets, they act like Yamaha keyboards! The sound does not cut suddenly but changes smoothly! Very few synths/romplers acting like that. It is time to make them bigger in size though! I barely see the parameters with my 4k 27" monitor!

I still haven't upgraded yet! Maybe I will wait for the 40% discount or maybe I will stay with v11 for several years! There are no new features tempting me. Maybe the performance is the only real reason for me to upgrade.

Well, I can't see any performance improvement. The realtime performance is slightly better in Cubase 12 but the average Asio performance (probably the same as the average audio performance in Cubase 11?) is even slightly worse for me.
At best, I would say that the performance has remained the same. Has anyone noticed anything different?

That's a common trait I am seeing everywhere.

Cubase 10.5 performance was crap, V11 was good , now 12 is going backwards again.

Who's optimizing this code, Benny Hill ?

Sometimes it seems to me that there is still some debug code in there that will be deactivated later with the 0.5 version

On the PC, Cubase 12 is otherwise quite unproblematic and everything runs as before (at least with me).

I always look with one eye to the Mac users... there are big problems if you want to use the native version for Apple Silicon, because Steinberg doesn't support VST2 plugins there anymore and this affects some of the very well known companies like UAD who don't have VST3 versions....
Could also come at some point on the PC that Steinberg simply remove VST2 support.

Nope. What you've observed matches what I've seen. Other than that the VST3 scanning now has a tendency to get stuck in a loop sometimes, and has to be killed from the Windows Task Manager.

I love Cubase and have been using it for over 30 years, but holy crap! - what a mess they've got.

I was just reading over on the Steinberg/Cubase forum and am appalled at all the errors people are running in to.
I think I'll be holding off on updating for a while.
Everything is connected to other dependencies and all of the checks seem to be not restricted to specific programs, so errors are thrown out left and right. Hope they get stuff sorted soon.

I hadn't checked the Cubase forum yet, but I read that some must have had problems with the installation.
I had no problems there. The activation also ran completely without problems. Cubase 12 has been open for over 8h and not crashed once.
