some more MIDI plugins...

hey, soma... one question...might it be possible to design a MidiFX-Plugin that stores Midi-Data while you PLAY, erase memory each time you press PLAY agin (but not STOP) and paste it to Track by pressing a button if you consider it worth being stored ? I often just play along to my tracks and sometimes i have nice takes while i didn't press REC ... and most cases i'm not able to reproduce it ptroperly in another take.
...there is a way to work around this with multiple EnergyXT-Instances, but its not very comfortable to insert the Sequences and sync them to the Track, they need some adjustment most times what kills my workflow...
perhaps the Plugin might paste the buffer to a seperate Midi-File, which you can relatively easy drag&Drop from the Explorer in the sequencer because it is in sync with the Track ?
just an idea...i miss the "paste Midi afterwards"-Function since i switched from LOGIC to EnergyXT...

ADDITION / VERIFICATION :
i think of something similar to Voxengo Sample Recorder for Midi, but synced to the Sequencer, erasing the Buffer each PLAY, or perhaps storing the MIDI-Files in a Special Folder already adjusted for easy retrieving by cutting them each time the Track is looped or the User Presses Play, so you can easily drag&Drop it into the Sequencer...

Sorry, Using SE limits what I can do with drag and drop and interfacing directly with XT.
I know you want a simple solution but, you could just leave a second sequencer always recording your input. XT will let you copy clips from one sequencer to another.
If you only want to record when you are playing, try using my Transport_EX plugin in this example. Although you have to erase the buffer each time in this example...

but you could remove the mapping to "Home" on the buffer CC map and then you have a continuous recording of all playbacks and you just have to copy and paste the data you want.)

thanks so far... the solution with the Transportt-EX is quite cool for the sync, but the Problem is that the midi-data automaticly adds the incoming data leading to a mess of data ... perhaps jorgen could introduce the option to select "Midi Sequence Overwrite" ... this would lead to a veritable buffer

I agree XT would be better for people who perform if new midi recordings were saved to sub clips like audio is.

The song is still able to open, but I'm getting this trouble even when I create a new project, save and reload...soma wrote:Thanks-
I the bug with the proximity pad "alpha" is because it is sending out so much CC information in noise mode that the XT can't keep up. (Notice that it doesn't jump if you just pipe the CC's out the master out). I will try and smooth them out and/or add sample and hold but if I can't I'll leave it as is with a note in the about (because you should have the option).
As for the transport error. It sounds like you are loading a song that has an old version with the same name... Don't know how that happened. If the song is still able to open, then just replace it with the current version you have (if you are able). If this isn't the problem let me know.
It's essential functionality for me (your original transport plugin ended up in basically every project) so I'll look for the link to the older version in the meantime, if you still have it up.

Do you guys think there's a chance of making a plug similar to Note To CC Converter, except that instead of outputting CC info for each note letter played (a,b,c, etc..) , it outputs CC info each time any key is pressed (1st time, 2nd time, etc..to the end, then starts over)?

EVM has this on a few synths, and it makes for nice expressive capabilities.
Thanks!

How about I make a plugin that outputs a differnt note anytime a key is pressed? E.g. 1st C then C# then D etc. Then you could hook that up to the note to CC or you could use it for something else.

Well I was thinking of this more for expression, like setting the filter cuttoff of a synth to a different level each time a key is pressed, etc...
And I think it works better when you have preset levels, as opposed to random.
Or maybe the plug could output CC and/or notes from each key that was pressed?
A fancy version of these ideas would output several CC messages and have a fade-in time, it would be like a poor man's melohman!

For your fancy version just use several envelope components in XT. They get triggered by notes and do exactly what you say.
What I'm planning is a VST that when fed any note, steps to the next note in a series. You can use this in conjunction with the NF_Note_to_CC to send the next CC in a series when any Key is pressed. You can also add my CC_glide (see link in Sig) to add fade-in times. Use several Note to CC's for doing massive changes.

soma that sounds like something ive been looking for quite a while! just like a old school arp triggered from a drum machine. would it be possible to set the arpeggio from a chord fed to the plugin?

inkinen, possibly, but it sounds like a different plugin to me. Can you describe what you mean a little better? Give me a few examples of what it would do in detail.
To me it sounds like the existing XT arp.

Here is the beta of the note table.
Pick a range. Any time you enter a note in that range a note from the table you create will be output. You can output in order or randomly.
This can be used as a note alternater if you want to make a drum that plays a random snare or alternates snares on rolls. Stuff like that. Also good for the Note to CC as discussed in a few posts above.
Give me feed back. (PS this is bascally a wrap of a Chris Kerry module)

Soma & NF, none of these midi plugs seem to work in Live at all, have you tried them in Live?
I actually own EXT, but it doesn't output midi, so it's kind of useless as a modular midi device in Live...
