Wooly dude have alook at what Schecter and ESP/LTD have to offer in the string-thru and/or fixed bridge department. Usually pack at least a Duncan designed active or EMG Hz buckers and trust me they are total shredding machines. If you like the compound radius then take a look at Jackson and maybe even better bet a Charvel desolation series mate. Anyway hear is one of my schecter's in 'stock' condition except my choice of strings with abit of shredding and rhythm stuff to give you a ballpark idea of it FWIW and just all MveryhumbleHO of course dude:

Its a cheap DemonFR with Duncan designed active HB-101s of something similar (cheap blackouts basically) but the Demon without FR is even cheaper and got all the same specs otherwise. It easily plays as well as stuff I have that cost 3 or 4 times the price and sounds good also. I do like Ibanez's Edge whatever 'FX' brige which is the Edge III with literally a bolt through it to hold it in place and also the Gibrolta but they are not as common as the trem models. Hope that helps abit

All the best and to all as always :)

Very nice - thanks! :) :) :)

Going to have to check my bank account to see what my budget is. I'd prefer to get something that shreds "out of the box" as I'm not so good with a soldering iron...

This is the one that is same as mine except the string-thru/hardtail model. Only thing I've done is changed the string to the gauge/brand I prefer and adjusted the setup for lower tuning but other than that it was all 'out the box' ready to shredImage
Course you could go for a second loaded scratchplate for the strat with a 2HB setup yeah? That would save on space but at the same time would mean swapping plates each time you want to use each pickup compliment. Options though at least we ain't short of them :D
Heck actually a Duncan blackouts modular pre-amp in the strat might be worth serious consideration as it would turn the bridge into a beast and that can be switched on and off whenever = ultimate space saving option? Although that would require the iron and solder to come out

Sorry I missed this, I like the breed nicely :) What I don't like is that it's a black mount and these are direct mount guitars so now instead of having the nice brassish looking plates, I've got one (the fred) and then the black for the breed. Looks "ok" but not as good as if they had just made them all the same

Nice looking axe! :D :hihi:

I guess if I just focused on one kind of music this would all be easy, but *sigh* I love to jump from Texas blues to metal to ambient, and honestly I guess there's no way one guitar could do all that well.

Urgh, I can leave the Strat alone (which is pretty much a given) and somehow make room for Guitar #2, I guess shoving my chest-of-drawers into the closet zone would do.. then hit Guitar Center this weekend and see what's on sale that I can afford and won't require a ton of hacking to make rock. Or maybe double up on the effects and stick a bunch of pedals between the Strat and the RP355.. urgh..

Worst case, break down and get the Tele Plus, buy replacement pups, and pay some talented luthier some cash to do the hot iron end of things.

A fried of mine told me that if I started playing again I'd end up not touching my MIDI keyboard and filling my room with guitars and basses..

do you have any friends that can solder? If not we have the diy forum here andlots of help...my point being is you do not need a luthier to install pups. There is nothing lutheirisk about changing pups (I made up a word :hihi: ), why pay for expertise that you do not need?

I agree with Dean but besides the duncan blackout pre-amp there are also other ones from EM and other companies that pack an extra punch when needed and again it's a few wires to solder...no need for a luthier...many of us could talk you through it...you have any help from me you need :)

Guys, is there place in this world for single bridge pickup Floyd Rose-equipped 7-string? I'm trying to create the ultimate budget shredder and the fact is that good name brand pickups are the most expensive part, so I'm thinking that we could skip the neck pickup altogether and just use a Dimarzio Crunch Lab 7-string or an EMG 81-7 in the bridge. Another option would be to use a name brand bridge pickup mated with a cheap Chinese neck pickup. What do you think?

Also, does anyone care for cut switches anymore?

DO IT!

Actually, I can't play a seven string due in my infant sized hands. Wish I could!

Ah, soldering! Let me speak f soldering, dear friends.

I tried helping out the hardware folks at the office early this year with a simple "tin the wires" task and I left many a burn in the lab desk and a lot of very poorly (if at all) tinned wires.

I tried about 3 months ago to solder sculpting armature wire together and nearly set fire to the table.

Soldering irons hate me. It's just a fact.

I think I know a fellow that knows a guitar tech that an do the pup switch hat isn't a "real luthier", since no luthing is actually involved (I made a word up too!). I'd have to get all 3 pups together and have him mass-switch them out.

And I would flat-out NOT do this to my Strat! Only if I got a project guitar would I risk life, limb, sanity, and the wrath of my landlady and the fire department by trying to solder even the simplest connection. :? :?

Ugh.

Never touched a seven-string guitar. Is the neck as wide as a six-string bass? :? :?

I can play a 6 string bass, different technique. But yeah, the necks can be pretty wide.

Urgh, my Ibanez six-string bass is at my reach limit. I was wondering about a seven-string axe, I think I'll wait on it.

whoa...wait a sec...isn't it impossible to be late in a thread about your next guitar? Unless of course it's your last guitar but if it we paid attention to such trivial things there would be very few posts...just my opinion, but I say speak out :tu:

No, I jumped to one of the first posts in this thread and I was all about to make suggestions. Then I looked back at where I was in the thread and the point had been made mute. So I edited the post.
