yeah ... i'm really interrested it getting the csr (though i hate the dongleshit), it might compliment the aar, it's just very different, and the fact having 2 very high end, but completely different roomcharacters in a mix could do wonder ...
btw, what about your harware/software reverb contributions? didn't you want to post some files?

which one of the clips was which?
I didn't actually know what you used in the two clips (I must've missed the bit where you explained it). So if you want a non-placebo review, check out the one on top of last page.

kingston, long reverb 02 was the one i declared to be the 224 ...
in fact, all my files were made with the aar ...
you seemed to like the fist one
(declared aar) a mini-bit better if i correctly understand your post you reffered to ...
funny thing is, that it is the same file as in the first post ... psycological fx over and over ... also happened to me 5 min ago in a thread about analog/digital synth ..
allthough i voted right (digital), i wouldn't have a clou that it was synth one allthough i use it all the time ... though not for analog sounds ...

Weird, I thought the second file was your original (stupid me I didn't check), and the first one something else.

kingston, see, thats what i mean ... again, this shows how good software reverbs can sound ... if you just don't know it is software you'd (me too) be fooled ...
i think more and more its more the general approach ...
if one needs a real room he might get some analytic, tc-like reverb ... if one likes more the musical approach, he might better get that airy, fluffy artificial, pleasing, in no way realistic, but just lovely oldschool 80's lexicon-reverb ...
to me there is a split in musical tases ...
those, who just love reverb as an audible, pleasing fx, which is audible (i.e. like in vangelis songs),
and those who actually don't like reverb but use reverb because they _have_ to, to make a mix fit ... hip hop, rnb, new rock stuff (i.e. red hot chilli peppers) comes to my mind ...
different tastes, simply ...

you've certainly proven your point, although it has to be said that the scope of your example is a bit narrow.
We should expand this thread into drums, or mixing, because IMO that's where good reverbs get separated from crap. For example, I could never get a perfectly pleasing sound to my mixes using the AAR (demo), and I should by all means have the experience for it. I had no such troubles with CSR, and I know it wasn't placebo, because this was before I found out it simulates PCM90. (which was a nice surprise it has to be said
)

its not the thing to say only a reverb unit that can do short ambiences is a good one, as a lot of reverb units capable of short, great sounding ambiences absolutely suck on big spaces, this thread clearly showed that the aar is superior in these tasks ... it's by far not so good on the short room task, and i never use it for that, as i agree with you, there is simply said, better alternatives.

a friend of mine has 2 L960, but when it comes to put a reverb on a synth solo he says : "just forget it, i use digidesigns d-verb, sounds way better for these tasks" ...

kingston, having said that, of course i'm in with widen the spectum on other instruments!
and if it's just for my information on how csr is sounding ...
i really am thankful for all files from the csr to get a more detailled pic ...

funny you should mention d-verb. I've used it on a few ambient tracks of mine, and it sounds great on them, but it's a one-trick-pony for sure. I wish I could have that one on my windows VST rig.

when i was on tdm back in the days, i used it constantly for my ambient or techno/electronic stuff ... but like you said, its a one trick pony ... horrible on acoustic instruments or drums ...
but yes, i'd wish i had thisone in my vst arsenal, too ...
but i think (allthough not 100%) the r66 comes close ... but since i have the aar, i simply did not have the wish for another modulating big space reverb ... or at least, if a new reverb, it should compliment the aar ... maybe csr does ...

This is has been an interesting thread.
I play drums in a rock band and do some guitar stuff, and in the past, I've thought that D-Verb was an absolute toy.
It's interesting to find out that some people in the know actually like it...

Hey Brok - great job, well done! You even fooled my expectation of what I would think just had to be the real thing, I must admit that! Still, when you look back at my postings I always had a little portion of doubt. Somehow out of intuition and surely not because of the quality of the examples, they are, as said, just beautiful. Well, you then got me instantly on the second long reverb sample. It sounded even better in many aspects and showed two things to me: 1. Brok is the master of dialling in *my personal* favorite 80ies LexiFlavour and 2. AAR is just an incredibly good software reverb.
But even now - please let us old Lexi fans hear the 224 in action - when you have the unit at hand again.

^^learn to read what other people write, he meant d-verb.
brok really knows his way around aar, both examples sounded great. i liked the first one more, seemed to be 'cleaner'.
