Mmm.. I just thought of that as well, but I was researching it to see if that would really make a difference. Seems that it actually would apparently. I need to look into how this can be prevented, and make a note of it in the docs I'm writing for the pre-order users so nobody gets confused..

Also, I just got a message from a user who didn't realize they could buy the developer's bundle and get Wave Designer for free.. I need to make this mention:

I found that in the german keyboard which i use for my PC also in the numeric keypad a comma instead of a point is used by default.

Hmm.. Ok, I need to find out how to resolve this so others don't have this issue as well. AFAIK, most of our users are NOT users from the US..

I have already created more than 100 (!!!) waveforms and most of them today...

I am currently testing them with the Resynthesis feature in ElectraX and most of them blow me away. :love:

It looks like i found a way of creating a huge amount of differnt "formant" waveforms with Wave Designer. Those i tested reach from typical "Vox" like sounds to more "Glassy" like sounds or mixes of both.
With the Resynthesis feature of ElectraX and using the PW modulation each waveform is like an own wavetable so actually you get many different waveforms from a single WAV file... :o

I have stored some of the most interesting formulas in a text file so i don't loose them.

using the formula approach is really fascinating. As soon as i get an interesting formula with e.g. 2-3 different functions changing (or adding) only one number could offer another interesting and sometimes totally differnt waveform (example: even vs. odd numbers). If that is done exchanging one function (e.g. SIN with ARCTAN) could offer a lot of additional opportunities again.
For the sound of a waveform when used in a synth like e.g. ElectraX even small changes could make a big difference and sometimes totally different looking waveforms seem to sound almost the same.

Yeah, we had the preset ability in the original ultra-alpha that only I had access to, but we've removed it for the time being. It should be back in there in the next beta version :)

I remember reading in a book, I think it was "How to Make a Noise" by Simon Cann, to never try to judge the sound of a waveform by it's look alone because 2 completely different waveforms can sound the same and some that look similar can sound different, just by changing the phase of some partials.

Exactly. This is why my approach is to first do a big number of quite similar (and also not so similar...) waveforms and test them in the synth i want to use it (ElectraX in this case but also Synthmaster 2.5 later).
Anyway i found that even if several waveforms i made with Wave Designer so far are sounding comparable they all have a slightly different sound. Of course there are some which sound better or more interesting than others. Those will probably be the ones i use for doing presets for a soundbank but i'll still keep all the waveforms, either for doing a big library or because i could need some o them later.

I'd really like to add more features for those who want to shape the sound in a formulaic fashion. The node editing feature will give others a way of creating sound without getting too crazy into the math, but the formula editing is still something I'm really focusing on. Now, with importing options, as well as all the rest, imagine how many cool waveforms you could come up with, without needing any other applications :)

BTW, here's a few other cools waveforms:

:arrow: sin(x + 8.5) * arctan(x - 8.5) + sin(x * pi / 0.1)
:arrow: frac(x * (sin(x / 0.225)) * pi)
:arrow: frac(cos(x / 0.1))
:arrow: cos(cos(x * 12)) + sin(x / 1 * pi)

I'm working on adding some new notes and basic instructions and abilities to the website right now :)

Here is another one based on the functions you used in that formula:

:arrow: sin(x * 3 * pi) - arctan(x * 6 * pi) + sin(x * 10 * pi)

another one:
:arrow: sin(x * 40 * pi) * arctan(x * 5* pi) + sin(x * 5 * pi)

You'll have to add the "Nomalize" feature to see the full waveform. In fact this seems to be necessary with most waveforms...

That's a nice one. I am currently checking what the FRAC function could do myself.

Here is one based on yours (SIN exchanged wit EXP):
:arrow: frac(0.1* x * (exp(x / 0.225)) * pi)
increasing the last number reduces the amount of "peaks":
:arrow: frac(0.5* x * (exp(x / 0.3)) * pi)

This happens when the Tangent is introduced:
:arrow: frac(0.1* x * (tan(x / 0.3)) * pi)

Another nice one. Here is a new interesting version:

:arrow: cos(cos(x * 10 * pi)) + sin(x / 1 * pi)
or: :arrow: cos(cos(x * 10 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.5 * pi)
or: :arrow: cos(cos(x * 10 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.25 * pi)
or: :arrow: cos(cos(x * 20 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.2 * pi)
or: :arrow: cos(cos(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi)
same with Sine: :arrow: sin(sin(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi)
combination of both: :arrow: sin(cos(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi)
with Tangent: :arrow: tan(cos(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi)

I used "Normalize" and "DC Offset" for those. There are many interesting waveforms with this just by changing the numbers and/or the ratio of them.
Example: Change the first number in the last one from 2 to 4 and you get a totally different waveform or use odd numbers like 3 to receive asymmetrical waveforms.

Adding a FRAC function to the last example:
:arrow: frac(tan(cos(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi))

Again use "Normalize" and maybe "DC Offset" too.

Same with EXP:
:arrow: exp(tan(cos(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi))

or with SQR:
:arrow: sqr(tan(cos(x * 2 * pi)) + sin(x / 0.05 * pi))


If those formulas don't work maybe you have to substitute the points (".") with commas (",") like i have to do too.
