I've used it happily for years, continue to happily use it, and have earned plenty teaching it.

Weird judgements...
What the friggin flying f**k have all your persistent whinings all over KVR been about then? Because these have surely made the impression that this and that policy of PH is a major problem to you with regard to Reason.

Speaking of wierdness.

Post

I use Reason as a great rack of devices via rewire within a better DAW as per the vision PH always fulfilled.

I don't like Re or the direction PH now pursue of making Reason a rival DAW. For me the new three window high CPU version is overkill and I wish they had held fast to their original ethos.

But I still live Reason 5 and will continue to happily use it.

Dreaming will not help those "Thousands of Developer" (anyone has a list of those? ) to follow a "market reality" based on YouTube CEO marketing videos.
That's too bad. RE's are enjoyable and, even in their infancy, a nice addition. However, if you already have a collection of VST and enjoy another environment, that's great too.

Go ahead and bookmark this page for future reference. As a past CEO myself, I'll go with the word of a colleague of a very successful company that is very tuned into his market share, growth potential and development considerations over a user that can't quite grasp the big picture of what those development consideration are.
They are the one catching up with "suggested development consideration" from users like us demanding a better Reason and not by those enjoying passively the due consequence.
From Audio to Re. That's not their innovation but their deformation of years of user request turned into a "leading edge music advancement" that only Reason has to offer because it is done "The Right Way".

Are you kidding me?
And btw I didn't give a $1 for the upgrade like so many fanboys. I paid over 50 times more to support what I believed was a sincere effort to make a better environment that eventually would give us a new Reason at a fair price. And now, for a mediocre piano and a quite nice effect I need to pay even more money and probably for each additional meaningful piece of synth and effect added to the rack. Yes the upgrade fee will cover what's already freacking DUE!

It took you 10 years as user and three times as betatester to reach the conclusion that Reason doesn' t support VST? :-o

Couldn' t you just have checked the feature list or demo before buying it?
You know, this is what makes Reason DIFFERENT. It does not support VST's..why should it when you can have who knows how many other DAWs do that.

I like the fact that it is different. You want it to be the same as every other DAW.... :hihi:

So you use a version of Reason that you are happy with but complain about an option in an upgrade you in principle do not need to buy? That doesn't make sense. But then again I remember another of your complaints being just as wierd, namely that you do not like the implementation of audio tracks either because they represent "u-turns" in the policy of PE. For all practical purposes I can asure you that audio tracks do not degrade the functionality of Reason, on the contrary and your complaints about it makes even less sense if you are happy with Reason 5 that does not has audio tracks. Come on now, get real.

I have my Orion filled with redundant synths that I could not help myself buying just because they were there and they sounded good. Basically I could do most things with the onboard synths of Orion. In this respect it is bliss that at least one DAW remains self-contained like Reason do and do not offer the temptations of VST support. For all I know I could even do without the few REs I have bought. It is even more of a bliss when a program like that has such amazing features like Reason has: The rack based graphics, the modular approach, the synth and sampler modules, the studio effects, the vocoder, the voice synth, the cv gate step sequencer, the arp, the ability to transpose and stretch audio tracks in real-time, the mixer, the ssl section and not at least the light CPU use. Boy you gotta be an untalented, unskilled, unwise, unmusical and unbelievable stupid amateur if the lack of VST supports prevents you from getting something out of all this. In this respect, I am more than happy that PH hasn't let the lunatics taken over the asylum. Just stay on course PE and ignore the noise of the masses. :tu:
"the irony"... what you say:

(1) vst can be a hardcore addiction
(2) you bought redundant vst synths
(3) you think reason is good because lets you avoid the temptations of vst support
(4) you bought REs, though.
(5) one must be a stupid amateur if the lack of vst support in reason prevents him from getting something out of reason.
(6) all the "lunatics" are people who play vst, outside reason. You and PH are lucky enough to ignore the noise of the masses.

"my diagnosis": you are a little bit confused.

I was pretty much an exclusive Reason + Live user for the longest time. I really enjoyed the quick workflow and knew all the reason devices inside out. I spent a lot of money on Propellerhead stuff and was quite content with what i had.

I really really like how CPU friendly Reason is when rewired into live. Its amazing how many tracks you can get... really amazing. Plus its super stable, i mean if you just used Reason + Live exclusively and no VST plugins you would have a incredible setup for doing live performance shows.

Im not mad with it, I just wanted to try another workflow for a while and see if it works better for me. I may end up buying Reason again.. It is inspiring to work with.

i like that 5 to 6
is the switch from cpu efficient to cpu inefficient (check the forums)
i like that some reason devices and reS now have
latency that they can't even solve during render
and going from a simple rack to an all screen monstrosity is kinda cool too
especially without basic things like group tracks
how can anyone be mad, it's comedic.

Catching up? Seems like a management team with over a decade of ingenuity that has one of the largest global product implementations has a pretty good idea of what it is they want to do and not do. The mixer alone in Record set in-the-box mixing to a new level with ingenuity and ease of use. A mixer so complete in features and graphical intuitiveness yet fully available with little to no hassle depending on your setup.

So what if audio in and third party implementation have been done before. A dedicated coded device for one platform will always be better than code that has to work in multiple platforms. Sure, the attraction for developers with small budgets will be to multiple DAW's for mass marketing but that surely doesn't mean the product is better.

VST's, in today's world, are an arms race. Users love massive gig's of data. The modern mindset thinks it isn't good unless it's 45 Gig so let's see how big we can make it. Let's see how many thousands of useless presets we can squeeze in and sell it as the biggest library of mostly crap. You want to complain about paying for Re's but are more than happy to pay more for a VST simply because it works in multiple DAW's. What, do you change DAW's like underwear? I understand the concept of being able to re-sell a VST and you should be able to. I think the Props will make that happen for Re's but the coding for that has to be pretty low in priority at this point. They can not be responsible for the inability of a user to know if a product will or will not be worth the price in 30 day's of free usage.

Or, the Props can develop their own system designed from the ground up to support their environment which has a massive global distribution. Are Re's perfect, no nor should they be or expected to be at this stage. It is still technology that takes time to perfect and I have no doubt that will happen.

Your last statement is your biggest problem. You feel you are owed something. That is just modern society to a "T". "I want X and Y and you owe it to me because I expect it." Well, I paid more than 50x the asking price for Reason 6 and don't think I'm owed anything so I guess we'll call it even.

I said I bought a "few" RE which does not equal having a VST folder full of redundant synts so there is no contradiction here. Further; the lunatics are not people who use VST outside of Reason but people like you who act like they can not make any music at all with Reason unless Reason gets VST support and keep on nagging about it. Don' t you diagnose anyone Myrna because of all the whiners you are definitely the most pathetic. 10 years to realise that Reason does not and will not support VST right? And meanwhile you could have bought Orion cheaply and all the VST you like and used Rewire if it were so friggin important to you. And BTW: haven't you sold Reason? If this is the case , why are you haunting these threads making a fool of yourself, you know, talking about addiction and confusion.

I find this something you most likely glossed over...

"Currently we have no plans for a Saurus rack extension for Reason, because no other user has requested this. We try to avoid to introduce another plugin format, because it's difficult enough to keep VST/AU plugins compatible with the large amount of different behaving hosts.

These plans might change in the future if the Reason format would get more popular
.
"

I find it interesting that the dev states:

1. Its "difficult enough" to keep the VST/AU plugin running on the "large amount of different behaving hosts"
2. Their plans can change if the RE format increases in popularity

You were raking PH over the coal's for changing directions and supporting audio and plugins when you were claiming that they said they wouldn't.

NOW you are promoting a post from a Dev that admits he will change direction of the industry warrants it.

I guess you are agreeing with the Dev that VST/AU's are difficult to keep running on the many different Hosts and that Developers are free to change their minds based on the direction of the industry?

As a Reason user I find this extremely encouraging ;)
Now, I was fine when Reason was an all-in-one audio application. Not for me, for sure, but I could see the attraction with people who like to live with that type of limitation. Easy to become intimate with your tool. I get it. But now, Propellerheads decided that it was their mission to create yet another plug in format, rather than just equip their software to one of the standard plug in formats that already exist. Why be mad?
Reason had to move on and away from that I think. The obvious way could have been by adding VST support or some kind of wrapper. But I just don't think that would have worked particularly well. Apart from all the under the hood stuff (which I admit I know nothing about and couldn't really care less about) I don't think this would have been a very elegant solution. RE makes much more sense from Reason's point of view. I think it's a much better solution in this respect than plug-in support. Maybe not much good to anyone else but I would have thought Propellerheads are really only interested in Propellerheads/Reason users. Why are people shocked/surprised that this is the case?!
... Because it's obviously draining developer time that could be spent on fixing existing bugs and adding functionality to existing VSTs or creating totally new ones.
That may well be the case. But it's up to developers to decide if they think RE is worth investing time on at the expense of their existing products. Those that have jumped onboard obviously like what they have seen, which is encouraging seeing as its an untested concept. If RE was a red herring would anyone have got onboard?
FFS, if you want to use a tool that lets you use plug-ins, there are a healthy crop of DAWs out that all offer fantastic functionality suited to any style of musician. :x
Obviously Propellerheads want a bigger piece of that pie

About being pretty bright.... Do you really have some good friend to give you a reality check? :hihi:

The pay what you want thing, for me, was a way to support the next generation move aimed to be a win win situation, and how dare people claming to be "all for Reason cause" paid a freacking $1 for this is beyond me, but it end up to be an invitation to partecipate in the Reason new Saga. The RE was supposed to be a way to get third party VST into the reason system. But now the PH have found the way to sell their own rack module to the reason users rather than being part of a natural upgrade.
But wait! There is the catch! You paid only a Dollar for going to 6! Well dear long term user.... Just to show you what a dollar can buy, now you will pay $170 for a so called Piano and an effect. But wait! Your next upgrade fee may only get you what we were supposed to give you long ago and if you need more synths and effects from us you are welcome to shop at the RE section.
