Oh boy, another VA synth. This time from Waves!

I still have a serious question: Why would this be more inspiring than let's say omnisphere. Is it that it's not samples? (or is it??)

To me, Omnisphere feels static compared to DIVA. I assume this is because of the samples.

Well, Omnisphere has a VA engine as well as a synth engine so in that respect it's the best of two worlds. I've not compared Omnisphere's VA to Element but I thought the demo track of Element sounded pretty good. In the end the products seem to have such different feature sets that the small bit of overlap seems silly to talk about. I wouldn't consider them competitive products.

I'm not quite sure what all the Waves hating is about. I'm up to my ears an VA (and A too) so this product isn't for me, but it seems like a nice little synth considering the reports of low CPU use.

Welcome. Thanks for stopping by. I have a question - is there any chance of a version of Element without the knob physics? I just can't make a clean sweep using the knobs, either it moves slowly or it sounds jerky, it might seem like a minor complaint but in a 5 hour tweaking session these little things can really take their toll.

Also, just out of curiosity, do you know why there seems to be some notch filtering going on on the basic waveforms? It seems to be around the 600hz range. Was it decided that the sounds were easier to mix with this adjustment, or is it part of the waveform generation process? It certainly gives a bit of character to the instrument.

Yes. It helps, it's easier to control, but it still feels steppy. I don't think the filter it's-self is steppy, but something about the way the knobs are polled and filtered just seems way off to me.

Thanks for a great synth. You've made Element sound fantastic with low CPU use. How in the heck did you do that?

I'd love it if you would post some tips a tricks from the developer's viewpoint since you know this synth better than anyone. Maybe even a quick video walkthrough if you ever get the time.

No, you don't need iLok for this.
For me it's also the first Waves product i got.

You'll need the Wave License Center ("WLC"). After the product is registered with your account the license is first stored in a Cloud (with your account).
With the "download" at the product page you get the Waves v9 installer which includes all current Waves installers. You have to choose the "WLC" (first entry) and Element (from single plugins) from the list at the installer.

With the WLC you could then transfer this to a HD or an usual USB stick.
I got mine on a small (around 1 GB) USB stick and works fine on my desktop PC and my notebook.

If you build a new computer or something like that you could also send the license back to the Cloud and put it back on a drive later.

I started using this yesterday but this is my experience so far.

Yeah. Here's the resultant automation created by whaling on the knob with a physical controller. I was going for a "squeeooweooewwweoowww" kinda sound but you can see steps everywhere. For slower modulations it's fine if a bit weird feeling.
