Theo: HSO is nice, but there are some things that I find 'odd' about it. For instance, jumping between the legato and staccato options for strings sometimes sounds like they were recorded from 2 different orchestras. Perhaps this has since been corrected? This was when I tried it back with Cubase 5 and was one of the reasons I didn't upgrade after the trial licence timed out. A shame, as some of the sounds are really nice.

Nope it was there in Artist 7 too! It just had more effects in each category (as well as several categories not even listing!)

No, you remember correctly. Many little oddities like that. Someone even recently found a particular A sample that has a pop in it. So it has its issues. But, as a general palette it sounds pretty good. And, with the expression maps, the articulations are a breeze to use.fandango wrote:Theo: HSO is nice, but there are some things that I find 'odd' about it. If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I think you're missing the effects listed as Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3 - see picture below. Can you locate this file?VitaminD wrote:Nope it was there in Artist 7 too! It just had more effects in each category (as well as several categories not even listing!)

Strange. It is in the folder where it should be. Cubase simply doesn't seem to see it.T-CM11 wrote:I think you're missing the effects listed as Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3 - see picture below. Tell us more about the new tracklist Theo. They seemed to quickly skip through it in the vids.
Does it do anything but hide/show tracks?
Can you directly hide tracks from the arrange panel or does it have to be done from the list?
Does it allow swiping through the list?
Can you access any other typical track attributes from there?
Can you move tracks around there?
Can the user created track presets be directly updated, add / remove tracks from them?
Thanks Theo.

Well, in the vids i saw they were kinda operating it like Ardour, click, click, click, on every track item, as opposed to swiping the list up/down with the mouse and turning on/off lots of tracks at once.
I assume it "swipes", just haven't seen it in a vid yet.
Frankly, as well thought out as Ardour's / MixBus "lists" are. (nice tabbed vertical lists for everything really) all of the clicking to activate stuff kinda drove me nuts. It is my one and only FR for Mixbus ever, to swipe it's lists with the mouse.

Ok, thanks. I only used Ardour as an example of what not to do with those kinds of lists. Like i said above though, it has a really, really nice collection of lists for things like that, track visibility, groups, etc, etc, but none of them allow swiping so with large projects there's heck of a lot of mouse clicking involved with switching things on/off.
That (not allowing mouse swiping) is really not the norm in my experience though. On the contrary, many hosts swipe all that stuff plus allow swiping through solo and mute buttons and things like that, to speed some of that stuff up.
Anyway, my questions aren't pressing, more just random curiosity having been a Cubase user so long in the past. Thanks.

The verb, well.. It's basically fantastic. Unlike any other host i know of, a Cubase 7 user can now, with a full stereo convo verb, a decent "room verb" and the new Lex style verb in 7.5 can now actually get away with not having *any* 3rd party reverb plugins at all.
i don't think there is a cross platform host with a better factory verb.
Thanks for the review. I think you have (had?) the Lex plugins. Do you think it can hold its own with the actual Lex plugs?
