USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 share the same port format but are completely different protocols. I see no mention in that MoBo specs that it has Thunderbolt, only USB.Pictus wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:15 am The fresh new Gigabyte B550 VISION D has Thunderbolt(Titan Ridge)

The Titan Ridge is a Thunderbolt chip, not USB chip
The other chips in the motherboard already provides the USB.

I am confused by this. I thought I had read that the newer iterations of USB incorporated Thunderbolt. Am I mistaken?... it wouldn't be the first time today.
I think I might be getting something wrong by a misread of this article.

Interesting and confusing...
Anyway, better ask Gigabyte support if the motherboard is compatible
with Thunderbolt.

I'm going to build a system using a Ryzen 5 3600 on an Asus prime x570-p motherboard.
As I've always used integrated graphics in previous builds, I'll have to get a graphics card this time.
No gaming or video work, just a daw, outputting to an hdmi monitor (currently just 1920/1080). What's the best cheapest option?

I always buy the best cpu I can afford, and at NZ$500 more expensive than a 3600, which would treble the performance of my i7 2600 and, from reading this thread, double what you're using, it's not worth the extra money to me.
I'm not even going to use a ssd, just use a couple of Seagate hdd (which serve me well), so no need to pick an expensive chip I'll never see the need to use it's power.

IF you want something to keep the CPU cool and quite, only
need to use the center fan.

I also have one of those basic, passively cooled graphics cards, good enough if one doesn't play video gamesPictus wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 1:56 pmThis https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/product/2jX ... 0sl2gd3brkAliens wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2020 11:23 pm I'm going to build a system using a Ryzen 5 3600 on an Asus prime x570-p motherboard.

And I use the AMD stock CPU cooler that came with my Ryzen chip, it works fine and I don't hear it at all.

Absolutely zero good reasons not to get at least one SSD these days.
FWIW, I’ll be going for the Ryzen 3600. Seems fine for this purpose, tbh. That or the 3700X, to double my current cores and threads (4/8), which would be cute.
Best CPUs right now for audio production, no doubt about it.

What is the purpose of that "DP in" port? - I assume this is Display Port so does this allow external boxen to drive the monitor through this port.Pictus wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:15 amI am glad to help, the new REV 1.1 Gigabyte motherboards have Thunderbolt headermagmagwa wrote: Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:32 pm Great threads, thanks!!!
I have come to the same conclusion, if you want a stable TB3 PC, it has to be Intel.
The only AMD + TB3 AIC mobo that tempts me is https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard ... v-11/sp#sp
and are excellent motherboards too...

DP = DisplayPortegbert wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 3:59 pm What is the purpose of that "DP in" port? - I assume this is Display Port so does this allow external boxen to drive the monitor through this port.
To use a Thunderbolt display, the GPU DisplayPort out goes into the DP IN.
