Some of you guys are looking so hard for reasons to be outraged. Apple’s own webpages say very clearly that there will a new subscription model for those who want it and that the standalone versions will still be available as a one-time purchase. Nobody is forcing you to get a subscription and nowhere does it say that Logic 12 is not a free upgrade for existing owners. Everybody freaked out when Logic 11 was announced and yet the world didn’t end and existing owners got a free upgrade. So, until they say it’s not free, I have no reason to assume otherwise. And if it’s not free, fine, I’ll pay my 12-year service fee and keep making music.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Trigon 6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

i'm outraged because they keep ignoring professional users and don't fix long standing issues such as:cryophonik wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:54 pm Some of you guys are looking so hard for reasons to be outraged. and keep adding AI slop crap. I'd gladly pay 200€ just to get THE SAME SHIT WE HAVE NOW with these 3 issues fixed

What makes you think you’ll get another 12 years of free updates? Maybe they’ll slap a full version number on every year from now on (as they plan to with their OS) and ask the perpetuals for another payment in full. And if people complain, the party line comes out: “well … there IS the subscription if you are looking for a better ‘deal’ “cryophonik wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:54 pm So, until they say it’s not free, I have no reason to assume otherwise. Gotta make those subs look like the better ‘deal’ even though we all know you end up paying indefinitely or lose access to working on your projects.
I don’t think the people complaining are ‘outraged’ but rather highly skeptical and once bitten, twice shy because we’ve been through this playbook before and the “Trust us bro” rhetoric from the corporate entities.

Stop gaslighting people with legitimate gripes about Apple’s development path of Logic Pro.

I don't think anyone is mad, just worried and thinking the paid version might be yearly now. Apple famously never did upgrade pricing in their App Store, so an upgrade version is typically the same price, but at $199 I get it, nothing to complain about.revvy wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:43 pm I’ve had free updates for over a decade. As I’m not a pro, a recent convert or a c**t, I am not currently mad at Apple over Logic Pro.
Mostly the legit complaint is ARA still being broken while they add in Synth AI players ans subscription models, AI could be used to help fix the broken AU ARA code in Apple Silicon, they should do that.

I am underwhelmed at this point. Not angry, just don't particularly care, given my knowledge of Apple and Logic development.

Sure, understood. And FTR I am not daft and also don’t trust Apple not to do the wrong thing. Fingers crossed!machinesworking wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:19 pmI don't think anyone is mad, just worried and thinking the paid version might be yearly now. I am. I've been mad since they bought Logic and screwed it up instantly. It was pixel-perfect to fit on any size display. The first thing they did was candy coat it and now it demand a wall-sized display. Of course, they neglected all the plugin GUIs that now require a microscope on said wall-sized displays. Etc., ad nauseum.
The only reason I bought X was to be able to open old projects. Since those project files have been lost to the sands of time, I no longer require, not want it.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

the Ai stuff.. ugh.. don't care about that sh1t but i know it's gonna happen in a lot of places... mostly wish they'd do something interesting w/the environment window for modulations etc.. but whatevers.. it is what it is.. been using logic only for mixing for a while now..MillerSam wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 3:47 pm There is already a teaser of the new features: AI Synth Player, and more

at least it doesn't require MacOS 26.. just 15.6 as minimum.

AI Synth player is the least feature I need / want in Logic Pro X. We are humans, after all.
I have not seen the specs, but if people use it:
a) sounds like everyone else
b) will make YouTube ContentID matching a nightmare with lots of tracks using same settings.

None of the features leaked so far are anything any longtime Logic user was ever asking for. That's worrying.

Correct. But, they will sell more Macs and more licenses with this AI bullshit now. A Reddit post lamenting Logic Pro’s continued slide towards AI instantly got like a million downvotes from all the sheep.Sascha Franck wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 12:08 am None of the features leaked so far are anything any longtime Logic user was ever asking for.
