I've only been thinking of that. Though I have been playing the guitars I own more, more recently. And as result thinking about all the guitars I want.

In regards to the Tele..... Don't Get a schecter pt instead. You'll still be able get to your rock and blues tones while being able to coax metal out of it.

Every tele that I've ever played had a 9 inch radius. A flat fretboard is more conducive for metal.

oh okay...sorry
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

MMph, good point. I suspect I'm going to end up spending a few hours annoiyng the shit out of the salesfolks at GC poking around on various guitars. I'll look into the Schecter.. I've heard good things about them.

Thanks! Always happy to take good advce! :D :)

Ok - looked at the Schecter guitars online - nice!

I can find 3-4 that look shred-ready that don't have the <expletive deleted> whammy bar, so this is good. I'll have to drop by Guitar Center tomorrow and see which ones they carry.

I'll dream of guitars all night.. sigh. Worse than sex dreams!  :help:

..and Saturday comes after!

Packing up to head for Guitar Center.. not necessarily to buy anything, right now it's just exploratory, and to check out effects for my bass as the RP355 seems to be rolling off the low end (feh feh feh). And cables.. need to go from the RP to the mic/line in (switchable) on my Lenovo and see if the latency is less than the USB (which is horrible). Otherwise, it's a standalone multitrack for bringing in guitar/bass!

I know there are going to be 10,000 kids playing Nirvana and Disturbed licks, and the snotty 12 year old kid who playseverythingrealfast and gets $2500 guitars off daddy's money.. :x :x :x

Let's see what they have for around $500 that is totally different than what I have. Checking out Schecters is at the top of my list! :D :hihi: :help:

Meh.

The low-end Schecters felt kind of iffy, the nice ones I liked were way out of my budget. I checked out the Epis, they were.. ok. I skipped the Fenders "for now".

Damn salesman kept trying to steer me to the "on sale" Gibson gear, the "affordable" ones were $1500!! :-o :-o Finally chased him off by saying I hatedGgibson necks and wouldn't pay that much for a hobby instrument, urgh.

Wasn't as crowded as I expected, which was nice.

Some real nice basses out.. they didn't have any of the 8-stringers in stock or I would have come home broke!! :o :o

No money ended up getting spent. :( The cables I needed they were out of so I just ordered 'em online when I got home. :?

Uncle E wrote:Guys, is there place in this world for single bridge pickup Floyd Rose-equipped 7-string? I'm trying to create the ultimate budget shredder and the fact is that good name brand pickups are the most expensive part, so I'm thinking that we could skip the neck pickup altogether and just use a Dimarzio Crunch Lab 7-string or an EMG 81-7 in the bridge. Another option would be to use a name brand bridge pickup mated with a cheap Chinese neck pickup. What do you think?

Also, does anyone care for cut switches anymore?
My opinion yes Eric. What I would like:

Basswood body

Maple neck and board (just for the extra snap a maple board gives if its dropped low)

Bolt-on...It just works

Regular would be 25.5 ala Universe and also do a baritone option 29 if possible
Cheapo onehunglow chinese neck pickup could work well enough as for sweeping and sweeping and tappping at the same time I and alot of others I know tend to hit the neck bucker and role the tone control off as it gives a more liquid/fluid sound/softens note attack some. It could always be upgraded if a user wishes after buying...But it is not an essential as on my number one/goto guitar it only has a lone EMG85 in the bridge as you know and does the job well too (obviously just IMveryhumbleHO course) plus the benefit of automatically running the 85 at 18 volts on the one 9v battery as its sharing nothing which would applies to the 707...etc also

Non-Reverse 7 a-side headstock, pointy but not Jackson pointy; Perhaps classic BC Rich (ASM-type) mated with the Kramer style ice hockey stick would look really dope

Big ass extra jumbo frets

No gold hardware, Anywhere whatsoever

I would buy one of each fo'so my friend if the neck profile was right as that is the deal breaker always

So in my opinion and for what it is worth to you YES, I'd trust you to get it right. That Rob Chapman 'Monkeylord' did/does well with his range of budget jobs via Andertons over here so I can not see it not working if you get the like you've said the important bits right :)

All the best as always and to all

Sorry I missed this, I like the breed nicely :) What I don't like is that it's a black mount and these are direct mount guitars so now instead of having the nice brassish looking plates, I've got one (the fred) and then the black for the breed. Looks "ok" but not as good as if they had just made them all the same

Speaking of that, the gravity storms were both standard metal :bang:

I'll have to send them a complaint.....the brass-ish plates look best!

Hi Dean, if you dont mind me asking, why not gold?

Also what do you see the advantage in having jumbo frets.

I have a neck that is going on my guitar next year [its been here for 2 years], it already came fretted, but I am going to have the Luthier remove the fingerboard because I have a 24 fret fingerboard I purchased seperately.

I will need to refret. I have never had jumbo's before, I was going to go for standards.

I have gold hardware on my 1405 (bass) and I wish it was chrome. Ibanez just has a thing about it having to be "cosmo" or gold or black much of the time.

Gold wears off really fast too. Probably a mistake for me to buy that one.

Hi Hibidy, Is it a sound thing? , or a look thing?

I was wondering more with pickup, pole pieces etc.

I had been considering trying to source some gold plated pole pieces for my P90's.

Post

I doubt there is a sound thing though I don't know for sure, sorry. I was referring to "hardware" as in tuners, bridge, etc. I don't have a problem with the way it looks at all, I just know from experience gold plated things wear off in parts.

About GC.
I hate that place haven't walked into one in over ten years and have no plans to return.

GC is the great B stock liquidator. Your options are always The most expensive thing they have to offer or the weak link throwaway. Midline price with high value never enter into the equations. If they can't get you to jump in to the deep end they throw you to the shallow end. Last time I was there to buy as opposed to look. The salesman drags the guitar in back to find the case.
I'm all ready to cash out I open the case and a different guitar is inside it. How the hell does that happen? Oh don't worry it's the same guitar. No it's not. It's not the same color the neck is different and the nut is messed up.

Seriously!!!! I'm not the only one they've played switcharoo with.
On the other hand I've had 5 for 5 buying on ebay. I've bought 5 guitars on ebay that met or exceeded expectations.
