I need some weird FX first, so it's going to be spending some time with Electro-Harmoix gear.. :-o :-o
I'm just gonna throw this out there because you're a smart dude...why not spend some time building some of those fx, the aforementioned guitarpcb.com is very helpful...mammoth electronics sells their kits painted enclosures very cheap as well), there is General Guitar Gadgets and byoc (build you own clone)...plus a lot more...byoc as well as guitarpcb have forums and tons of help not to mention our diy forum here. Kill three birds with one stone, get some great fx, save a lot of money and learn a ton of new skills.

Populating a circuit board is simple once you get started, anything that you have to worry about getting too much heat are mostly using sockets so there is no risk for damage and besides that it's something an 8 year old can do (I know I was 8 when I built a multi-meter kit)

wooly, start with this kit...byoc has boards with solder to make it even easier (I would not use an enclosure but that's me, this is a perfect onboard guitar pre) @14.99 what do you have to lose?

I played one once, years ago.. as was mentioned the sucker weighed a damn ton AND fretting both strings at once was a serious finger workout.

Amazing sound, though, once I managed to get something out of it. :hihi:

I think the first time I heard (read) was back in the very late 70s when I noticed in the credits of Motorhead's 'Bomber' album that Lemmy played 8 string bass on one track. My first thought was a bass with 8 evenly spaced strings in the style of a Fender VI ( :hihi: ) but then I talked with someone who had played one who made me realize the strings were paired.

In regards to 6 or 7 string basses I'd rather have an uncrossed mobius megatar with 5 bass strings and 7 guitar strings.

Hmm... starter kits for building pedals not too expensive, comes with all the tools, and I don't have to keep trying to find my !@$@#$@!#$-ing lost iron.

Looks amazingly like a Chapman Stick. Would be interesting to own, maybe.

The thing about standard chapman sticks is they are a bear to learn.
On a stick the bass strings start out with the lowest notes in the middle then spread upward (note wise) from the center of the nut.

Megatars, and warr's, zen tappers are strung differently. A standard setup is much like a guitar/bass start with the lowest string being nearest your head and each string above stays in order (usually 4ths)

An uncrossed tuning is a bit of a misnomer. It means uncross your hands. and is based only very slightly on the original touch guitar built by Dave Bunker.

Bunker was building touch guitars long long before Emmet Chapman came around. The thing was he was having to good a time playing Las Vegas with pretty show girls to sit down and produce them.

Uncross simply means your hands dont cross each other to play the instrument. The bass strings start roughly in the middle but are under the melody strings.

This is an example of an uncrossed megatar

Much easier when you don't have to reach for or cross you hands
