So the current beta phase ends Jan 15 but you are still posting messages that BW will be out by the end of the year?

Conflicting messages like this are confusing and bound to lead to wild speculation.

This goes back to what was being said earlier in the thread about BitWig needing to inform the world if they are actually still planning to release this year or not.

On an intellectual level I understand the software will be released eventually and when it does I will buy it.

On the other hand I am a flawed human being and subject to to all the trappings of human psychology/emotions. No mater how beautiful a woman is, if she continues to be a C@$K tease over a long enough period of time, eventually you will give up and move on (and probably be frustrated on your way out :x ).

Having a good product on its own is not enough, marketing it correctly is just as important. As people in the music industry we should know this better than any one.
How much great but unmarketed music is out there that the majority of us will never hear? How many times do you turn on the radio and hear music that is derivative and boring but masterfully marketed?

I'm not saying this as a thinly veiled ploy to provoke BW into releasing information for my own satisfaction. I'm saying this because (regardless of how good the actual software is) the messaging is becoming a mess and a running joke here and on other pro-audio places on the internet. The more drama surrounding the release the more unrealistic the expectations of the product. This can affect reviews, public opinion and sales.

But what do I know, I'm just another anonymous voice on the internet.

Yes, and when you run into her in the bar a month later and she invites you home, you will still go... :hihi:

@ The Mantra: if you would have opened your eyes you would have seen that the twitter post was from October the 18th and the Beta 9 came out yesterday or so..so might you think, they didn't know how their beta process is turning out two months later? Could be right?

NP.
The date was the first thing I checked.
After all, scouring for every detail has become the only option for us BW fans.

Edit:
In re reading the first sentence I can see how you might assume I didn't check the date.

Bitwig
Greetings from the Bitwig Headquarters!

We hope you've had a sensational 2013 and would like to take the opportunity to wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
We're currently approaching the last beta phase stages for our upcoming Bitwig Studio and want to send out a big thank you to all who helped with beta testing, sent in wishes and suggestions, or otherwise helped to improve and shape what we're working on.

It has been amazing to see so many people from all parts of the world and so many different walks of life contributing to bringing a new music-creation tool to life. We couldn't be more thankful for the sheer amount of anticipation and interest we have experienced in the past 12 months! That said, our thanks also go out to those who have silently kept their fingers crossed for us while eagerly awaiting the Bitwig Studio 1.0 release.

If you have been following our project for some time now, you might already know that we originally planned to ship Bitwig Studio before the end of this year. Alas, we won't make it and would like to apologize for having to shift this time frame now to the beginning of 2014.

However, the wait is nearly over: We will kick it up a notch again after the holidays and are looking forward to attending NAMM in January, where we will announce the upcoming release date and pricing information for Bitwig Studio 1.0!
We hope you'll enjoy the upcoming holidays and wish you a happy, prosperous, and creative 2014!

Your Bitwig Team

Didn't check all of my reported bugs but beta9 seems to solve some of the "deadly" ones I've reported.

The PDC always on is reported to be fixed, need to check out :D

Didn't have much time to Bitwig these days...
pc999 wrote:BTW one question for the beta testers.

Does it currently brings a sampled kit of "realist drums" eg like rock music or something.

Does the drum synths can do realist drums :?:
ThomasHelzle wrote:Hey guys, a good new year 2014 to all of you!
May there be plenty of cats in your year ;-)

Well, as was said before, Beta 9 is mostly about bugfixes and finetuning, so it's not as exciting to report on as the previous ones with new shiny tools. ;-)

As for the drums: the small E-Drum Modules aren't really meant to produce realistic drums, they are single purpose synths made to be used in the DrumMachine Device mostly, so they are lightweight and easy to use. With that said, you may be able to create something realistic sounding with them anyway, but that isn't the main idea IMHO.

And yes, there are realistic (and to my ear great sounding) drum samples included in BWS. But since drums are a kind of religion to some and I'm not into religions, I leave it to the release and everybodys ears to come up with verdicts, praise or damnation ;-)

Something I found rather nice recently when testing some automation with clips, is, that you can see the clip automation as you can see it in the arrangement if you unfold the lanes:

Image

In this case I was continuously automating the 8 snapshots in Alchemy in 3 instances via the _RemixX and RemixY parameters to make them go around in a kind of circle.

I have the "All" icon engaged to see all automated parameter lanes. By default you only see one parameter in the top lane which is selected automatically by what you move in the VST/Instrument-GUI (great to find parameter names).
The little pin behind the dropdown allows to prevent that automatism to happen and in that case you can either select what you want to work on from the dropdown or unpin, move a parameter, repin. Quite intuitive.

The little star in each lane allows to make that lane a favourite which is visible even if the "All" icon isn't engaged.

You can also see that I typed in "remi" in the VST parameter search to find the parameters - the cool thing is, that BMS saves what you type there so you get the same view the next time you open the project. Most other tools dismiss such stuff.

Cheers,

Tom
virtualmark wrote:Hey, I notice that all of the automation in this is straight lines. Does Bitwig have proper curved automation? By that I mean not like Ableton's which uses fixed curves, but like Logic's which allows you to drag the curve around.
ThomasHelzle wrote:I explicitly wanted the curves to be straight here.

The automation moves the focus-square first from left to right through the upper 4 Alchemy snapshots, then down to the second row, then right to left through the lower 4 and then up to the first row, field 1 again - rinse and repeat.

But you can click on the lines between automation points to curve them up or down freely and if you create an additional point between two existing ones you can create S-curves. But there are no bezier curves with handles if you mean that - I'm not really familiar with Logic.

Cheers,

Tom

In this animation, it's possible to adjust the curves to get whatever you want. Whereas in Ableton you can only drag up and down. Can you adjust the curves much in Bitwig?

It's just a workflow thing really. I use Cableguys Filtershaper and it allows you to drag curves around like this, you can get some really cool sounds easily.
ThomasHelzle wrote:You can do all of this, although for the S-curve you need an additional point in the centre as I wrote above.

Cheers,

Ogopogo wrote:I wonder if these guys are the "Tolcha" responsible for a couple of those libraries: http://tolcha.de/

Interesting if so. Stuff from them sounds like it should have a bit more character than your standard library stuff.

And I suppose it's Justin's Nektar that is responsible for those drums? I mean there can't be too many Nektars, and they are already working with Bitwig it seems.
