this is absolutely mind-blowing. I feel I'd never heard it before, it was all like cheap demos of the thing before this. I agreed with Frank, the preferable record was Utah/Abravanel, but that too is like a budget demo vs this.

The original orchestration {Varese Ameriques} was abandoned at once as too much to handle. 1921, apparently no one was ready.

This is a truly great recording, and mix, where you get a good sense of the space, on the f'ing youtube. It's like a total fantasy of an orchestra, what's amassed here. ONE_HUNDRED years have passed now, and a lot of this is still future music. The opening is as astounding as anything I've ever experienced. it's like he took the really radical elements of Rite of Spring and took that all the way.

Huge kudos to Simon Rattle, and this preposterously accomplished orchestra.

for all the shit the beeb come out with, the proms is fantastic!
not a fan of the last night with all the nationalism thrown in, but the overall programme, usually has at least one "outlier" as above. along with an afternoon aimed at kids!!

i saw an aussie, brett dean, composition, that was quite interesting, lots of real world sounds used too, phones and the like.

also many years ago, watched a group of disabled kids, have to admit, i wasn't expecting much, well, i certainly wasn't expecting what i got anyway, they were great, and to see them enjoying the music they were playing, no better moments for me than seeing kids enjoying music
