I think I know the answer to my question but asking it for completeness...andy-cytomic wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2023 12:05 pmYes, V2 is planned for the 1st half of 2024 and is mainly about the HD mode, for more detailed analog modelling in the main signal path. I will stick to my word that those that purchased the full version by paying $99 directly Cytomic via the web page to get v2 as a free update. Does that cover your question?4damind wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2023 9:38 am So to summarise:
V2 is planned for 2024 and will primarily contain an HD mode. The update will be free for all those who have bought the full version. Right?
It doesn't affect me since I currently don't own (or have ever owned) a license for Glue.
It use to be your practice, probably still is, that if you already own another of your cytomic products, you get a discount, thus rewarding you for being a repeat customer. Are you saying these repeat customers will have to pay $30 to upgrade to Glue v2?

Yes, so if you got a discount on your purchase, and you’d like to update to v2 then I’m proposing a $30 fee to update for v2, otherwise you can stay happily on v1 for no charge.zvenx wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2023 12:22 pm I think I know the answer to my question but asking it for completeness...

Update: new Beta builds of all Cytomic plugins, including The Glue, are available from the web page that include VST3 support, as well as native Apple Silicon support - The Glue already supported these, but there has also been an update to the Juce v7.0.8 which may also help if anyone was having specific issues previously.

Andy, I appreciate the note in the installer about the name change. I've noticed a lot of devs just changing the names of plugin files without telling us and it's annoying. So I thought I should express gratitude when a dev does it right.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I've fixed the two main issues people were having: the installer now deletes the old "The Glue.vst3" dll before installing the new folder structure for the vst3 version, and the web page now allows you to click on the "down arrow in a circle" after the name to download the installer. Those are the kinds of issues I like to have in the plugin!

The 64 bit VST2 version is included in the current installers for Mac and Win. On Windows you may need to rename "The Glue.dll" to "The Glue 64.dll", depending on your DAW.Aligot wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2023 8:35 am I installed the current Glue and there is no VST2 which I really need, my ableton set has certain settings. Do you know where I can download this?

yeah I like your Mercurial Audio like approach by rewarding customers on their next purchase but you really should have a special annual or quarter discount...like for example at least 14-30% off for a week.andy-cytomic wrote: Wed Nov 23, 2022 10:43 pmThere is a big difference between offering discounts, which I do, and sales, which I don't. Please re-read the quoted passage again a bit more carefully. To me a "sale" is a one off time limited discount that puts pressure on people to "not miss out", and disadvantages those that decided to purchase either just before or after this time.besaco wrote: Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:32 pm“We keep our price point as low as possible all the time.” Sales are not made because people can’t afford it. Everyone can afford the cost of the tools. It’s a matter of priorities.andy-cytomic wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2011 5:12 am I'm not a big fan of such sales as I feel it penalises anyone that has bought the product while not on sale. I will be offering discounts to existing customers on The Drop (when it is ready!), and I will also offer the same total discount saving to new customers if they buy both The Glue and The Drop at once.
Sales are made to overcome psychological barriers that everyone has. No matter how well reasoned a decision someone has, the final act is always emotional. Making an offer you get:
- Getting people's attention, who would normally ignore you
- Favor the decision to people who are thinking of buying it
- Legalize people who are using a pirated versions
- Have more users and people in general talking about your product. This is free advertising
These are basic Marketing rules. And are not harming users, because you both win. They get a good product at a good price, and you get profit and impact.
By not offering discounts you are losing tons of money. But it’s your decision.
Have a nice day. Cheers.
There is no used by date on a digital download, and you can never have too much or too little stock. The discounts we offer are permanent, if you buy two copies at once you get a 15% discount. If you are an existing customer (ie still own the license) that spent USD 99, you get a 30% discount. This way people are encouraged to purchase when it's right for them. Sure I may be missing out on some short term income, but in the longer term price stability and brand confidence is more important.
Unfortunately we have moved to a new web page and still need to get the discount system up and running again as it has to tie into the customer's purchased and owned licences and check if they qualify.

The problem with that is you incentivize people to wait on purchasing. Then you are competing with everyone else having their once-a-year seasonal discount. People can’t buy everything on sale between Black Friday and New Years, so your discount strategy may just result in losing those customers for another year.Britishboxer wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 10:18 pm yeah I like your Mercurial Audio like approach by rewarding customers on their next purchase but you really should have a special annual or quarter discount...like for example at least 14-30% off for a week.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Some people will think to themselves…well since it’s never on sale I’ll buy the ones that are on sale now instead. Unfortunately, nearly every other dev has a sale going on every month so it sets you on the back-burner. I’m not saying I agree with this thought process, but it seems like it affects a lot of people.

I think the bigger issue is, that you lose certain target groups, like bargain hunters, collectors and even people that are simply on a very tight budget. 99 bucks may be affordable to most people but it's not exactly no brainer territory.
I think it's different with something like soothe2 that doesn't have a 1:1 replacement right now (and even they did a bf sale) but there are a lot of compressors and filter plugins out there and a beginner on a budget may not even hear the difference between the glue and other comps and just buy another one, a cheap bundle or even use one of the excellent free plugins like the TDR standard edition plugins.
Honestly, I don't know if Cytomic would generate more income with sales, but I think there is a reason so many other devs participate. As a customer of the glue and the drop I'll just say that I don't expect a company to keep their initial retail price forever, that's just not how the market works regardless of the product. And if doing sales would put Cytomic in a better shape financially so Andy can continue coding great plugins without worrying, I would be fine with that.

You compare soothe to the glue?
Soothe is for those who don't know to record properly or how to use an eq,
it's a so called problem solver, avoid problems and you won't need it, whereas the glue could get way more use in a project, so it should be a lot more expensive tgan soothe
