Anyone remember this? What happened to it? I had a few softsynths on diskettes, including the first VaZ.
Maybe that's the one you mean :

That's the one, thanks! Hehe, looking forward to a little time to check it out, I think there were even a couple of my presets included in FX2, now that I remember back, FM wiggly-wogglies.

Aug 1st 2003 - Few weeks of slow progress due to nice weather. Betaversion to be released to selected beta testers soon.
Juli 13th 2003 - VSTi version nearly finished.
Juni 10th 2003 -Work continues on the VSTi version. Many thanks to Matt Second and Izmar Verhage for providing measurement data.
May 9th 2003 - Many people have requested a VSTi version of Freebee. I have begun development of such a version which will feature improved filters and envelopes.

Introduction
Freebee (workname Lush) is a software synthesizer created by me (Mike Janney), aiming to emulate the classic Roland TB-303 Bassline.

* Roland TB-303 Emulation
* Pulswidth modulation
* Suboscillator
* 3 different filters, 18dB, 24dB diod ladder simulations, and additional 18dB LRC filter simulation
* Frequency Modulation
* Equalizer and hipass filter (bass cut)
* Tube and linear distortion
* Simple 6 track drum sequencer
* Delay unit with BPM sync, panning and adjustable delay
* Reverb unit

The development of the software began in 1998.

Why another TB-303 Emulator
We needed a piece of software for our music projects, and didn't want to waste money buying commerical software, or use a crappy emulation.

Release Notes / Disclaimer
This is an incomplete software package. Development of this program has been discontinued due to lack of time. All that remains are the executables which can be downloaded here. This program may be usuable or not, it depends on the users patience. This software is musicware meaning if you create something with it, the author needs a copy of the music or a link to where the music can be downloaded. Package may be redistributed as long as the contents are not changed.

Specifications
A parametric model for the synthesizer was created using the original schematics. Extensive fine tuning of the parameters was done by using audio samples from various sources. Approximately 600 megabytes of uncompressed audio data was collected and analyzed to create the best possible emulation given the model.

Download
vintage.zip
approx 600kb
model2.zip
approx 287kb. This is a 303 model update. Just unzip to the directory where freebee.exe resides.
demo.mp3
506 984 bytes
demo2.mp3
365 714 bytes. Demonstration of square wave with 18dB filter.

Installation
After download, simply create a directory and unzip the files.

Requirements

* Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP
* DirectX 7.0 or later
* Pentium 133MHz or faster.

Manual
The program is small and self explainatory. Required knowledge is how to program the bassline. This should be easy to grasp using the demo patterns included in the package. Some things worth mentioning though:

* Oscillator->Uniform Pulswidth allows the user to set the a static pulswidth of the square waveform. This results in a more hollow sound, which can sound more realistic in some situations.
* Filter->FM will activate a filter modulation, with the waveform being the modulation source.
* Machine->Animate should never be activated, it can cause the program to crash.
* The zero button on the bassline causes a jump to edit note zero in the current pattern.
* The pitch mode button will when activated advance to the next note in the pattern when a note pitch is changed.
* Pressing key r on the keyboard will randomize the pattern.
* Pressing key a on the keyboard will switch all notes off in the pattern.
* To edit parameters in the drum sequencer, push a button and carefully drag the mouse up or down.
* The V (volume) and P (panning) buttons in the drumsequencer don't work. The S (shuffle) button works incorrectly.
* To load a sample, click the <No sample loaded> filename field to bring up the file requester. Only Mono 44.1kHz wave files supported.

Known problems

* Sometimes the sound is static or locks up. Go to the menu File->Buffer Settings, and adjust the buffer size. Sometimes the problem will solve itself just by clicking Ok
* The play song button doesn't always work.
* The VCA (voltage controlled amplifyer) isn't completely accurately emulated.
* Sometimes the drumsequencers tracks get out of sync while editing drum patterns. Stop the sequencer and start again to solve the problem.

yeah everybody please note: seems like these virii like/target flashdrives,
eg: if you have an eject problem, the host sytem is copying to your flashdrive 3 hidden files like: autorun.inf, copy.exe, host.exe, and these will replicate to any connected drive...so, have antivirus installed, and unhide all files, including sytem files. doesnt necessarily have to be a symptom like disk eject prob, either, so watch out.

THANK YoU BFUNKU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
