That would be a really great thing.
very often im looking for a way to remap pitch bend to a cc, although i think those days are almost over, but even more often im using midi input transformer in nuendo to limit the upper and lower values on cc2 and its crude.
also being able to map cc2 to multiple other cc's with different curves/scalings and such would be great.
like on arturia's stuff you can "learn" any cc for any knob but its always full range and theres no way to trim that. minimonsta lets you do a lot more, pretty good implementation there.
theres already a compressor for velocity, i always thought one would come around for cc's but it never happened. i appreciate your interest!!

Tony : also, what is your pitch bend amplitude set to ? I don't think it's default 12.
As far as the CCs are concerned, could some plugin generate realistic BC data based on notes velocity ? I know BC offers a great variability and velocity is a fixed value, but it would be handy for fast notes, and then we could modulate expression with the modwheel for longer notes.
I'm sure things can still be improved on the keyboard side of Milestone.

i had it set to either 3 or 5, not 12. you're right.
guido: another whacky thought. theres a technique, its not in any of my demos cause im trying to cut back on it since for awhile i was a heavy addict and couldnt get through a solo without using it, using alternate fingerings.
thats where different valve combinations hit the same note (well roughly within 15 cents) and you "trill" between em so its the same note and all valve noise.
i was thinking you could assign a cc (and probably a midi note assign too) to latch "alternate fingering" mode where, after the cc latch is activated all the following incoming notes whatever they are play the note the you were playing when you activated the mode.
so like im playin and i hit a high note and click on a pedal (maybe make it a momentary switch) and then wiggle my fingers wildly all of them revalving the same note, and perhaps for nuance each of those following fingerings could have a slightly randomized (assignable range heh) pitch bend offset.
miles and freddie hubbard come to mind when i think of this trick, i think its fair to say freddie hubbard did it more. its a very "jazz trumpet"-y kinda thing, and theres a lot of stock jazz licks based on it...a lot a lot.
oh by the way you're a genius.

in fact maybe dont retrigger the note , just trigger the valve noises (and the pitch bend offsets).

One tip I could give from looking at Tony's midi file is after recording your track, if you find it too clean, go edit it in piano roll view and add some seasoning : just add a few very short notes (4 to 12 ticks maybe) on top of existing notes, 2 or 3 half-steps above or below the existing note's pitch. Something you could get in real time too, but that you just may not think to add while editing.

Hi Tony, I can kind of accomplish this with using the pitch ribbon on my Kurzweil. It is a cool effect, and it sounds pretty close to the real thing. I would still like to see a way to do half valving. Your insights to this project have been (no pun intended) "instrumental" to it's developement...so thank you very much! On a side note, nice to see someone else appreciate Don Ellis. I still think he had one of the best big bands ever! Take Care.
"The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgement, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil." Solomon.

How about releasing it with some cool midi files of licks and phrases, played through a BC? For those of us without one, that would be the icing on the cake and definitely would increase my donation!

MilesTone is awesome.
Just some suggestions that I think would improve it.
1) I really liked the first way pitch bend worked!!! armonics-changing glides in brass is something that I never saw before and it worked very good for punches, please put it back as an optional way to use bend.
2) Make a more complex vibrato algo, emulating the trumpet player and how lips interacts with the mouthpiece, vibrato is not necesarily only a sine wave modulating the pitch, I think it modifies breath and air too, and each one occurs at different points inside a single vibrato cycle, and that cycle itself contains random slight variations in cycle and amount.
3) Make a Trombone and a Sax!!!yay!

Unfortunately sax has one of the most complex harmonic overtone series of any instrument.
Not only that, each individual note has a greater difference in overtones between one another than is typical on most instruments. That and the fact that it's expressive enough to largely get it exiled from the orchestral situations that Adolphe Sax created it for and the fact that there's a giant number of weirdo playing techniques that we are habituated to associate with the sound of a sax has thus far pretty much kept it entirely out of the realm of simulation.
Then again, Zio's a genius!
Would you call it Trane'Whistle or Bird'Call?
*edit* I'll give you all the help I can possibly muster if you make a John'zHorn!!!
I've been pondering how to share sax extended technique sounds with the community (who in all probability don't want such a thing!)

Unfortunately I don't have a sax quite good enough for definative samples.
I've been loading weird sax sounds into a resynthesizer & giving my bag of tricks a new life since I'm trying to promote the use of VST live & refuse to play accoustic instruments until I get it all out of my system.
Another problem is finding a place far enough away from other humans to shriek & skronk.
But I will find a way.
I wish I had a basoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe & all the other fun woodwinds you can get good multiphonics out of just lying around!
