I'm not personally familiar with What Does it Take (I'm assuming you don't mean ), but perhaps Steever is

I was talking about which I'm guessing he'd know about, since he was in the band.
Not sure if he played on it, though, as I've only got a passing familiarity with the group.

As for the vocals, I try, but I've got limited range.

Not really a range issue (a lot of the vocal lines in this sort of music barely have any range in the first place to worry about ), it's more of a volume issue. One of the things that I've noticed (not just in this contest, but simply in general) is that people who come from a non metal/punk background usually end up sounding really restrained when they try to do aggressive vocals. I don't know if it's more of a "If I push it any further, my voice is going to sound bad by my usual standards" issue, or simply a "I don't want to bother the neighbors" issue, but it seems like folks would benefit from ignoring what they've learned about "proper" singing for a bit and just let it all out.

That's funny - after I listened to mine back a few times, I thought it was pretty restrained, but when I compared with other people's vocals I guess not.

Indeed, it takes practice and technique much like any other type of singing. Two important factors are learning to breathe properly during the performance, and making sure your vocal force comes from your diaphragm. When someone tries to do more extreme vocals, but doesn't have much experience with it, you can often hear a temporary hoarseness in their speaking voice afterwards.

Missed the most obvious reference. In my defence, I haven't listened to more than a smattering of that album; I don't enjoy metal of any variety, really.

Didn't mean range in that sense (though that range is limited too); it's as you describe, a discomfort with singing loudly.

One email later, and Steve assures me that he did play on all of the songs on that album, and wrote most of the song in that Youtube link. I should be more careful when listing the resumes of my collaborators.

Like the intro to a John Carpenter soundtrack that can't quite muster up enough strength to get started, or possibly just a reminder to buckle my seat belt. I can only assume this was meant as annoying rather than angry, but I found the minimalist rising tones to be pleasantly soothing.

i did occur to me that posting something without bothering to listen to it ran the risk of not meeting the theme's remit. my own experience of anger is limited, but there are just a few incidents in my life that get me seething, even when i recall them 20-30 years later. i tried to emulate something of these in my approach to the contest this month. the hallmark of these incidents is disdain and disinterest shown by people i judged should have behaved otherwise. typing this now i probably sound pompous, but i'm trying to convey the essence without going into specifics. if i did, the full ridiculousness would be revealed to me and i would surely howl with laughter, but i'd hate to have these little germs of anger expunged - they are all i have to connect me to such emotions. my default setting is 'soft'.


anyway, seeing that a few have found my track pleasant in some way or other, i did give it a quick listen. at times, the Trio SA-51 is a fickle mistress. thanks for the review.

Odd that it should work out htis way, but....

In real life I'm pissed off right now! Ha, go figure.

I'm dealing with my ISP who doesn't seem to understand that thier server isn't resolving the DNS for the KVR web site. I explain to them that every other IPS I log into (work, my mom's, my sister, random wifi's ect ect..) that I can view the KVR website, but not theirs. Odd that they only seem to be able to tell me that I need to reboot my modem. What a bunch of twits! I ask them how rebooting my modem will resolve the DNS error I'm getting, and they ask if I've rebooted my computer lately. Arrrrgh!

Also, not that I'm pissed about this, but, I'm in training classes all this month for certification in Project Management. So, my availability is a bit low.

2 days ago I had a wonderful text for the gossip nearly finished, when my daughter (back from visiting Belgium) gave me a memory card with her photos to transfer to my PC.
I copied the text to the note block and didn't save it (NEVER before - of course - I've done so).
Plugged in my card reader, forgot to activate it's driver, pushed the card into the gadget and... Flash, crash, pattaboom !
Without asking me if I liked it or not (VERY political incorrect ! ) my PC restarted and 'adios-sayonara' to my text on which I had spend an hour composing it...

That really pissed me off,

Scoops, sadly they are right. I have the same problem, especially with sites or page inserts that use a subdomain prefix, eg. images.news.com.au

If you use Windows...

Control Panel - Network Connections - Local Area Connection. Right click, choose 'Properties'. Select "TCP/IP Internet Protocol" from the list, and click 'Properties'. Where DNS is listed, at the bottom of screen, choose "use the following" and input the provided address (for/from your ISP) into the primary & secondary. See how that goes.

By rebooting your modem you push yourself to the top of the connection table in the router (somewhere between you and kvraudio.com) again.

You're right. Ignore the "kiddies" idea, I was having a blonde moment. Could be some sort of memory limitation (cached DNS table or memory problem) in Scoop's modem or on his PC?

A modem reboot can sometimes be helpful (set browser to modem address - something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.10) and log in and click the reboot option if it's there.

Sometimes the following works in Windoze:

Start-Run-Command

then at the command prompt

cd \windows\system32
ipconfig /flushdns
