I finally got everything downloaded...took me three days...8)

I had to download a number of kits many times....even though I was using a download manager...the kits would just hang up on instal. But,eventually, I got everything installed and then applied the patch.

Then, basically I started to audition the Drum Masters kits.

There are some stange things going on in these kits (all the OCEAN WAY ones were fine)

The very first DM kit I tried, had the kick drum panned all the way to the left.

I found kits that had lots of room ambience on the high toms and virtually none on the floor toms....panning issues...volume differences that are significant from kit to kit....which I found very surprising...(again Ocean Way Drums right on the money with everything)

Now...

I can go through all the kits again, and document all of these things...but, is there a point? Or is this just the way they are?

Is this stuff fixable in the mixer? for instance the tom panning on all the Drum Masters stuff is very center centric...nothing at all like OWD..and I found kits that had toms panned from drummers perspective but the hats are audience perspective...things like that...

Again, all the ocean way kits are as advertised and as expected (I already own OWD DL version)

But the Drum Masters ones seem a little all over the shop. I am concerned because I see people raving about the sounds...surely, their installs cant be having these issues...people would notice kicks pannned hard left, differing amounts of room ambience on toms, and toms being reversed panned....?

Also I have KONTAKT 3.5 and I have the wait 15 secs before anything happens ...which is okay, but It would have been nice to know ahead of time...i thought I was having freezing problems...

cheers

I'm not having any of the issues you mentioned except for the longer loading times. That's because the scripts take time to load. It was discussed on the previous page.

edit: you know, I haven't spent much time with the GM kits... so don't take my dismissial too seriously. I've been concentrating on learning the IMAP. But I'll check the GM kits later today.

Loading times in Kontakt 4 are 3-4 seconds for big Kits like the Gretsch Multitrack or the Blasticks Multitrack. I have none of the issues mentioned above.

Kicks hard panned is not intended so that sounds odd right there. Individual toms... with as many that were custom done for this I could see may possibly have panning issues that need to be looked at. The reason is there is a new script for this and the old settings for them would have been gone. A fair amount of the panning is in the sample itself though since it is stereo and preserving the overhead's actual spread. Everything should be drummer's perspective. You CAN drop down the pan panel and change things yourself and as far as any kit being full audience perspective vs. drummer you can do that in a DAW just by reversing it. I think there may be something in Kontakt that can do it too. As far as a hi hat being in the wrong spot that is an easy fix by us or by you. Some of this is subjective and up to each person though but there is a norm default it should be.

That said you may not be hearing it what it is supposed to be as well so my suggestion is that you email allen (at) esoundz (dot) com and you CC me dave (at) sonicreality (dot) com with specific kits and issues. We'll look into it when I get back from NAMM and do another patch update if necessary. The kick panned hard left doesn't sound right though (npi). You may want to redownload that kit again just to see if it was a corrupt download or something.

One thing I know is the case is that the "Extra" 5th and 6th toms brought into GM kits which are copies of the hi and floor tom are quickly pitched a little different to fill the slot. They may NOT have been panned a little more too. That could have been missed.

Basically, a lot of these kits normally have say 3-4 toms. But when we do a GM map it really needs 6 toms to fill the slots. So the way we do that is what I described above. This was just done fresh and we missed something - I already know we did now that it's come up. So that will be in the next patch update. Of course if you're working with a GM kit and you want more subtle panning different between the very top and very bottom toms relative to the others just pull down the pan panel and pan it over however much you like. If you don't hear anything wrong with it then don't even worry about it. Remember each person out of 900 (yes, 900+ now) is going to be more particular about every nuance than the next person and NO ONE should expect everyone to have the same concerns or taste. Some people like toms more centered stereo and less wide so they may actually prefer the GM toms exactly how they are.

I had the same problem in Firefox. When I simply clicked through everything it worked like a charm!

We warn about this in the manual for DM2 which is coming soon. It can vary from computer to computer, kit to kit. The script data is deep and it can take Kontakt time to load even after it has loaded the samples. Patches are usually light but not when they have data for each articulation and alt. To have these features you may have longer loading times in Kontakt AND it can vary. But nothing is actually wrong.

Mine take like 10 seconds to be ready to play, I don’t mind it. These drums are great, and I love them. I can’t wait for your midi loops!!! I like to use loops to start the writing process and its hard to find good ones!

Thanks for this awesome GB, and sorry for being so inpatient with you at times SQUIDS, I was just really excited for these kits!! Thank you again!

I think it is next to impossible for a Multitrack kit to load that quickly. On my system it takes 28 seconds to load a MT kit (from Drum Masters 1 without the scripts), and my computer is pretty fast. It takes 18 seconds to load a STm kit.

I believe the 3-4 seconds you are seeing is the time it takes to RELOAD a kit that you had previously loaded, because the samples (and scripts) are still in RAM. I just reloaded a MT kit in 4 seconds. But I don't think it can load that quickly from scratch, unless you have the world's fastest super duper 2012 model computer.

Whoah! What an amazing bundle. Thanks all you Squids and Squidettes.

I did find a few issues.........

The Blastix Toms (Imap) are missing a velocity or three on A#3. So there's a big dead spot. Maybe can just change the velocity range of the existing samples? Or....... are there a few samples that I don't have for whatever reason? PS I love those Toms, you just gotta turn 'em up.

And the Gretsch Multi Kit (Imap) is missing the Kik samples on A1 and G1. Love the kit. The Toms sound way better in this incarnation than in the stereo version for some reason. They flow a lot better down the sizes than the stereo kit. I'm not a drummer however. Maybe that's just how they sound in real life at certain velocities. They all sound good as a single sample, but put them together (in the stereo kit) and it's pretty weird.

Anyway, my main point was that I love the Multis. I think I'll have to buy some more when funds allow.

Cheers,

I just took the link to the phase 3 download choices (2 of 5). In comparing the names of the kits, it looks like I already have all 4 that are listed (Sonor, blasticks, etc). They were all on my main esoundz download page. Are these kits variations?

Those are Multitrack Kits, the ones you already have are the Stereo versions.
