Answering my own question: No it doesn't seem to work. The demo version installs fine but if you try to open the plugin in the host the nag screen remains black. It looks like you can not get past this screen to test out the actual plugin.

Tried with Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx 32 bit, Wine 1.1.42, REAPER, Renoise, Savihost.

That's interesting (although that config is perhaps a bit unusual). Can you send us a screenshot of the scenario, along with the steps you've made (support@samplitude.com)? Thanks.

Nice work Sascha. Listening to the cab/room sound on cans, the illusion of having an amp in front of me is pretty damn convincing. I think the sort of clean-ish blues sound you can get out of this is hard to beat.

this isn't aimed at anyone and in fact it includes me but I seem to be noticing a trend that Vandal is catching the attention of some those most critical about amp sims and it seems to be doing at a pretty good rate

yes, I agree.

I just used it yesterday by 're-amping' it in Samplitude using 3 tracks and comping some guitar solos.
It's great being able to play through 3 amps simultaneously

.

The dang thing really sits nice in a mix.

Tried out Vandal demo today and I must say I'm impressed. Sag control put a big smile on my face. Voicing controls are also something I wish was more common in all amps virtual as well as hardware amps. It's also so far the only amp sim that scratched my itch for usable sounds with cab sim bypassed for ultra clean sounds. With that I mind I have a question to the developer: What's the actual difference between the different preamp modes? I expected the clean mode to sound identical in whether in classic, british or high gain mode as stated in the manual yet it seems to change the tone stack.

Exactly. Fenders & Marshall (to draw an analogy from the real world) share the same tone stack in some models, yet the actual parts dimensions are different.
Apart from the tone stack, the 'fixed' preamp voicing, the actual tube (mu, response curve, color etc.), virtual voltage, bias, pre- & post-tube cap values are different in the 3 preamp models on Vandal.
By combining the 3 preamps & 2 power amps, you really end up with 6 different guitar amps

As the mac variant is 32 & 64 bits, there's not much to change in the code itself. However, I currently have to set up my PC & Win OS accordingly. Just got back from vacation and am about to arrange things here (what a drag it is setting up a PC...

).

BTW: Does anybody know if there's a way to install Win7 on a mac with bootcamp? Doesn't Win7 require 2 partitions?

It should be do-able if you make another partition (presuming that you have XP running under bootcamp already). So as far as i know it only requires one parition (one for each version of Windows) *but please do not quote me on that one/take my work man as i have not yet attempted on a Mac yet as i have had no need to do so*

If the HD is already partitioned, the Win7 installer won't create the second smaller partition. If you install to an unpartitioned HD, the Win7 install will create the second smaller partition.

Magix Vandal amp sim = Winner in terms of sound quality so far
