03 - a singer, who sung 02.
04 - the father of 03.
05 - the fate of 03.
06 - a friend of 03.
07 - a song to which 04 wrote the music, as sung by 06.
08 - a song to which 06 wrote the words, fearing 05.
09 - the show to which 08 is the instrumental theme.
10 - 13.

I've had to edit a few times, but it's good now. :)

I got possible answers for 1-6, after which it all fell apart, so I suspect I'm barking up the wrong tree...

I dunno. Why don't post a sample of your barking?

You could have various answers for 01 and 02, I suppose, but the 01 I was thinking of was born in 1934. 01 also recorded 02 (as have many others).

According to my latest information, 03 and 06 were an item at the time of 05. It's possible that 05 was an established fact at the time that 06 wrote 08, but my understanding is that 06 wrote 08 after 05 occurred, but before it was known for sure that it had occurred.

There's a cover version of 08, with 06's words, which features in episode sixteen of season four of 09, which concerns the loss of a lover.

It's a sad song.

You may ask questions. I might even answer them.

Yep, right tree. Still not getting any further though!

Was it a US TV series?

Does 06 also come from a family of musicians?

09 is a TV series from the U.S. 03 and 04 were also from the U.S. The actors who play the titular role in the series and 10 are from England and Ireland, respectively. 06 is Scottish. 01 is of a different nationality.

I don't have such information on 06's background, but maybe I'll get back to you. I know that 06 has been involved in relationships with two other musicians, resulting in a daughter with each.

There is another U.S. TV series, with 3 in the title, which also features the version of 08 mentioned in my previous post, which is by a Swedish singer of Argentine descent. The episode is number twenty of season five, in which a fifth man stabs the first, who is then taken to a hospital.

Ah, I got 6 wrong! OK, I now know all the answers except 10. WTF does "13" mean?

If you really know all the answers except 10, then you are not familiar with 09.
I suggest that you investigate further.

My apologies.... I believed this to be the case, but my latest information says New York City.

I'm calling for the referee! If I need to have watched the series (which I did up until the end of series 3) that's getting a long way outside the scope of this quiz. OK, I can look it up, but all the same...

OK, I'm going to jump in with some answers:-

1 - Leonard Cohen
2 - Hallelujah
3 - Jeff Buckley
4 - Tim Buckley
5 - Drowned
6 - Liz Fraser
7 - Song To The Siren
8 - Teardrop
9 - House
10 - Remy Hadley/Olivia Wilde

Bonus points:

Jose Gonzalez

Pedantry points:

"Teardrop" isn't the theme music to House in the UK, because of licensing issues (despite Massive Attack being a UK band) - instead they use a vaguely similar sounding instrumental.

I only got as far as House/Teardrop/Liz Fraser and I wasn't even sure if they were right. :?

An argument which would carry more weight if you had been unable to give the correct answer. :)

10/10, but no bonus points, because you missed the accents in José González. So one pedantry point to me, but no pedantry points to you, because a) I knew that Teardrop isn't the theme music to House in the U.K., and b) I want to have more pedantry points than you.

Post

Oh, oh, oh, AND one more pedantry point for me, because the answer to 07 isn't Song To The Siren, it's Song To The Siren by This Mortal Coil. And another nine pedantry points to me because all Frank's answers 1-9 should have included a 0.

So, hakey - the Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded Go to Sleep, did they? :?

Actually it's only the theme tune when House is shown on Fox - reruns on other channels use that oddly similar instrumental piece, probably for the same reason.

I know, but to be frank I couldn't be arsed :hihi: I had visions of someone else getting the answers in before me!

I thought number 6 was Rufus Wainwright up until the point that you said they'd had a couple of kids, then I knew I was wrong!

Any points I've earned will no doubt be disallowed now as I haven't got any questions prepared, and I'm going to be offline for a few hours; I'll try and think something up in the meantime, but if anyone else wants to step into the breach I've got no problem with that (although something tells me that The Fex might - he is King Pedant after all :hihi:).

I'd be interested to know how both of you got even this far.... I honestly thought that the winner might get 09 & 10 and work backwards.

The Fex doesn't care. The Fex must sleep. It's 3.35 a.m., and The Fex has people coming to service The Fex's aircon at noon. AND the Fex must tidy up first.
