Hi everyone,

after i got the Synthix full version on Wednesday and Xils 3 (+ Xilistics) today i reprogrammed the Brass sound which i first did with Synthix on Xils 3 now.

Here is the demo and the Synthix demo for comparison (both with the same MIDI data):

https://rapidshare.com/files/2286938518 ... Demo_1.mp3

https://rapidshare.com/files/268370146/ ... Demo_1.mp3

Drums are from FXpansion Geist, no external FXs used.

Reprogramming this in Xils 3 was only possible with the additional envelope and the colored Matrix pins of the latest full version so this should not work on Xils 3 LE as it does not include those features AFAIK.

PS:
When i get the two PolyKB II banks from the Xils site i'll have all their available products then (except the LE and player version)... :)
Like already mentioned those 3 Xils synths together with Largo, PPG Wave 3.V, Synthmaster 2.5 and Dune are more than enough to do sound design for the rest of the year i guess. :D
Based on those synths mentioned above i already started cleaning up my "virtual synth rig" so i'll sell some of them soon.

Great job on Synthix. I love the sound of this synth, and yes I have both XILS-3 and PolyKB II and plan to get this one as well to complete the trilogy. I'll never get the chance to play these instruments, so I'm glad they are being emulated with such quality!

I have a question on the demo, which I just installed and I'm playing around with. I tried to adjust the filter or envelope settings and for some presets they just don't move; for example: KY FunkWha Ltz and KY Jazz Vibes LtZ. In fact the whole upper half of the controls are locked: lfo's, modulation, oscillators, noise, synchro, multimode filter, and envelopes.

Just a few presets down, and the controls work again. I'm sure it's intentional, but I don't understand the control scheme yet, but just in case these are real glitches I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks.

Don't worry, it's not a bug but a feature  And you're not the only one who was initially confused by it  Those layers are locked in those presets, causing this behaviour. To unlock them you'd better read in the provided manual, which explains it pretty well :)

Hi Yatmandu,

yes its intentional, its because these presets ( That I made ) use the advanced layer mode ( ie some layers have different settings like different filters or enveloppes )

Therefore to edit these instruments you have to choose wich layers you edit ( or adit all at once ) and first make the layers you want to edit editable :

I'cped this from another post where Xavier answered but you can also ahe a look on the manual.

"Hi
Thanks for your kind words

I want to explain an important part of the Synthix : the Multilayer (page 20 of the manual here)

By default, the Synthix is a standard 16 voice polyphonic synthesizer (Despite its powerful two MIDI keyboard management). But clicking on the MORE button makes the multilayer part of the synthesizer appear, opening a whole new dimension of sound design possibilities.

When a multi layer preset is launched, you can't change a parameter without making the layer writeable. This is to avoid to modify something you don't want.

Two buttons can be used to simplify the edition of the layers: Edit All and Toggle Edit.

Above and below the layer toolsbar.

The first is use to make all the layers writable (or make only the current layer writeable) while the second exchanges the state of the layer. Making those, which were writeable, now read only, and those which were read only now become writeable.

This explain why for some preset, you can't change some parameters. Make all the layer writeable and the change will be taken into account."

I will do a video tutorial about the layers techniwues in Synthix. Its very simple and a 3mn video can show you all. Unfortunately with words only its a bit longer :)

Hi and thanks Nielzie and Ltz for the explanation. I'm such a not-RTFM kind of guy, thinking that I should know everything when it comes to Analog and VA instruments, but this one is clearly one that I should make the extra effort in reading up on! Cheers, and back to having fun with Synthix now!

Xavier/Laurent, brilliant synth!

Just demo'd and was expecting to hear PolyKB II in a different shell, this was NOT the case, this was hands down the best, yes the best VA(VST) I have ever tried, blown me away, if I had to describe it's sound, I would say 'solid and cutting'!

I just knocked up an 8 bar loop using only Synthix and converted it to mp3 but don't know how to upload it? - I could see myself using this ALOT...

Some probs though, installed the dongle free demo, sometimes lost sound, had to close plugin and load a new instance, also one time no buttons on UI, had to close UI and re-open, also could not move filter controls/others etc on some patches?! :? Is that a demo restriction!

This is the most convincing VA I have EVER tried, all subjective and IMO :D But true also! :D

Hi Tony Yeah ! Glad you like it :) :) :)

No the demo has no limitations of this type. If you look two posts above yours you'll have the explanation :

In short some presets are in Panel Mode (or Simple mode) like if you were in front of a -turbo- Synthex, with a single panel. These one you can edit very easily.

Complex instruments however use the Advanced Mode i.e different layers have different totally INDEPENDANT settings/panels. With these presets you have to CHOOSE the layers you want to edit ( in the most complex cases you could be confronted to 8 totally different layers, and therefore 8 completely different TurboSynthex panels, but as you can "see" only one layer you have to choose the layer(s) you edit )

Well the manual explain it more in depth ( page 20 )

Synthix -tries to- offer the best of both worlds with its Simple and Advanced edit modes, altogether on a single screen. But this can be a bit perturbing the first times you use it. Then you very quickly get used to it.

Its the -hopefully- small tribute to pay to get both a real Sound Research powerfull Synth, as well as a fully efficient Simple Synth at the same time.

Lol, I guess this layer/edit/control thing is stumping a few people! B.t.w. I've been running the demo on Reaper Win7 w/o any issues at all. I also have to agree that this is one of the best sounding VST's I have ever played with. Cheers to Xavier/LtZ/and the rest of the dev team.

Thanks for your kind support Yatmandu

About the layers : In the final version, when moving a knob on a locked layer, a pop-up will say something like "RTFM" ! Euh, no, I'm kidding ! some think like "unlock your layer" or "make your layer writeable".
I agree that actually, this is confusing.

Best regards
Xavier

Synthix is the first synth that sounds ANALOG in my ears.

I hope all the Synthex factory patches find the way in the library.

All the others synths like Jupiter8-Prophet5 from arturia still good but Synthix gives me finally the feeling ive got an real
analog sound from a plug.

Thanks for this good work!

I haven't got any real analogue synths, the closest I had before was my Plugiator by Use-Audio hardware dsp synth, the sounds from this Synthix sound as good to me, I was bowled over - it does feel/sound like a real analogue to me, I will be buying this!

Good work, Once upon a time I was cynical about VST's emulating analogue,I.e. I thought N.I. Pro 52 sounded shite, it was the first VST I heard....
Not any more, first OP-X Pro, then ACE, then PolyKB II and now Synthix have all shown me it's possible - but I think Synthix has raised the bar, I said before no more VA's but when it's this good how can you not buy it...
