Only time the indexer runs a lot for me is when I launch live for 1st time in a windows session. The HD will spin for a minute or more and then stops. After that, when I reboot live, it doesn't scan at all unless you add more samples to index. It is extremely annoying though. I hope they will fix this in future versions.
You can still kill the index process though for now. Hardly a solution but I've done it a lot when beta testing. Stops spinning instantly.

Stuck in Aperture Laboratories for a 2nd time!

Which guy? The one guy posting threats to Abes about it on their current beta forum? Stay away from Live for as long as you wish, for sure it'll get better as they update, but the whole 'it broke my HD' thing seems a bit far fetched to me.tooneba wrote:
The guy tested on 2 HD and both got hardware failure agter the indexing. I don't know it was coincidence, but, at least for me, I don't want to bet for the time being as my computer runs safely now.

Bug or not bug, the arrows do the job here for me but I agree it'd be harsh if that didn't work either.kenporter wrote:Should be the Tab key not the arrow key, and yes it's a bug.hibidy wrote:Doesn't work here. The point is, it's a confirmed bug and to the best of my knowledge has not been fixed. That was way back in the beta stages and it's like since not everyone is effected, those of us who are are shit outta luck.
BTW, it works w/o issue in live 8.4

Been working with 9 more but i still can't get over the shitty browser.
-You can't just browse to a folder anymore
-Everytime you've browsed somewhere Live 9 closes all the other folder trees again, unless you painstakingly CTRL-Click EVERYTHING.
-Which is rendered useless when you quit/restart. Then everything is closed again.
I'm starting to strongly dislike working with the Live 9 browser. This is very counterproductive, i don't want negative feelings when i'm in a creative process.
The arrangement screen background grid is also too low in contrast. The lines are too vague and no skin fixes that.

Really interesting, I am on a Mac too and arrows don't work in Live 9 or Live 8. I don't recall the manual mentioning arrows either. Are you using up/down arrows or left/right? Are you using a small laptop keyboard or the extended one?samsam wrote:Bug or not bug, the arrows do the job here for me but I agree it'd be harsh if that didn't work either.kenporter wrote:Should be the Tab key not the arrow key, and yes it's a bug.hibidy wrote:Doesn't work here. I am seriously curious how arrows work for you, but not for me regardless of what version. Just to make sure you're talking about the feature of renaming a track only correct, meaning you press CMD+R and then you move to the next track by pressing tab or in your case the arrow keys. According to Live's manual too, page 592, it should be tab not arrow keys regardless of PC or Mac.
Thanks,
Ken

First of all, I'm not claiming there's no bug. As it stands, I never knew that 'tab' would navigate you around, I just use it for switching between arrange and session view.kenporter wrote:Really interesting, I am on a Mac too and arrows don't work in Live 9 or Live 8. I normally start a tune in session, say 10 tracks each with 2 clips. Before I drag everything over to arrange, I want to rename everything. So in session, there's probably a clip highlighted. Command R renames it, then I can use the 'up arrow' to move to the track name and 'Command R' again to rename. Then I can move all round the session clips and track names using all the arrows, L/R/Up/Down, renaming if I want to.
This is using the small wireless keyboard that comes with an iMac and looks like a laptop keyboard, no dedicated number keys. I've done it this way for as long as I can remember.

OK, this is different than what Hibidy and I were thinking. Of course you can move around with the arrow key and the press CMD+R to rename another track. I thought you we talking about pressing CMD+R and then hitting an arrow key to jump to the next track to directly rename it. You can do this by hitting tab but not by using the arrow keys. And yes, it currently doesn't work in Live 9 and is a bug as it works perfectly fine like this in Live 8 and should work like this in Live 9 too, as described in the manual.samsam wrote:First of all, I'm not claiming there's no bug. The renaming of the next track by hitting tab works here (PC Win7 32 bit with Live 9.02)?
As far as renaming a block of clips goes, do them one track at a time in the following fashion:
Start top left, Hit Cnt R and name the 1st one. Then hit the down arrow to do the clip below etc till you get to the bottom.
When that track's worth of clips is done, arrow back up to the top and then press tab to get to the next track and repeat all the way across.
Works here and is super fast
Bear in mind that this only works for contiguous clips. As soon as there is a cell with an empty clip you need to restart the process.
Cheers

A word of warning to anyone getting a push. If you already own a live license, do not register your push serial number on your account. You will permanently lose out on the intro license.
Ive been emailing support, first they said you only get an intro license if you dont have any other licenses. So I finally got a second response since I wanted to know about reselling push and what happens to the intro license. I was told that I basically forever lose out on intro, they would not give the new owner an intro license and I have no way to get one to give to them.
Just an fyi

So got my foot in the door now, It takes awhile to open after launching. Is this going to be down to the indexing process? It seems so but it is not that bad...PT takes much longer
Session view automation is awesome & the M4L content is working well here with a lot more than I expected, All my old library is maintained and I can grab it from the browser. I like the detail at the side when a pack is installed. Haven't had time to do anything which would cause some of the issues mentioned yet
First impressions are decent, Not blown away by any means but hardly skimmed the surface
One other thing I like is the prompt to save as instead of overwrite an old version created project as I would of just overwritten without using my loaf, So another plus point

I am seriously enjoying Live lately.
I mostly compose in the clip launcher with my tracks and I am absolutely LOVING how they have upgraded the automation system. It has made it much more quicker to get a track down now for me.
All of my VSTs and AUs work absolutely great with the automation learn system so far. I am starting to believe that for live electronic music this is seriously one of the best systems out there apart from bitwig whenever that comes out.
I think that live once learned can be very much an instrument in its own right since it gives you everything you need to perform on the fly.
Personally when i first encountered live, i was coming from a long time reason users view which made me a tad biased. I thought the Live sequencing system was odd and it threw me off from using it at first. It was because I was not used to the sequencing style in live but now that I am used to it I don't think I'll ever return to the reason style sequencer for loop production.
It's almost too easy to get a track going that can sound really good in Live now.
For general recording and tracking I have not used live in a "protools" style session with recording so I can't really say how that works, but for electronic music it is a serious no brainer for me.

Which guy? How did he "test" this? What kind of failure are we talking about?tooneba wrote: The guy tested on 2 HD and both got hardware failure agter the indexing. I don't know it was coincidence, but, at least for me, I don't want to bet for the time being as my computer runs safely now.
Thousands, presumably hundreds of thousands of users, have not had a problem with Live tanking their hard drive, yet some phantom stranger has had TWO Live related failures. I think it's more likely that this person either doesn't know what a hard drive failure looks like, or something else he does regularly damages hard drives.
