There are new modeled filters, and SampleTank 3 will indeed be updated to support Syntronik so it is far from some "repackaging" (mentioned by another, not you, but I figured I'd address both points in one shot).JJ_Jettflow wrote:Hey Peter:
Quick question. The info on Syntronik states they are brand new filters but there is talk these same filters exist in ST3 so there seems to be a bit of confusion about this. Could you please clear this up?

You're welcome. There will be more videos coming, we'll definitely round out the walkthrough of the synths series of course, but I'll see (and make suggestions toward) what is coming.Elektronisch wrote:Thanks for asking and thanks for answeringPeter - IK Multimedia wrote:There are new modeled filters, and SampleTank 3 will indeed be updated to support Syntronik so it is far from some "repackaging" (mentioned by another, not you, but I figured I'd address both points in one shot).JJ_Jettflow wrote:Hey Peter:

Thanks Peter....that is all I need to know for now. Figured it is better to get this from the source and get the facts as opposed to wild speculations

I think that answers my previous questions pretty well. Updates to ST3, and new content I can use in it. I'll probably be pre-ordering this.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:There are new modeled filters, and SampleTank 3 will indeed be updated to support Syntronik so it is far from some "repackaging" (mentioned by another, not you, but I figured I'd address both points in one shot).JJ_Jettflow wrote:Hey Peter:

Burillo wrote:lolwut? that's like saying Kontakt libraries are crap because they "use the same rompler engine over and over"...
Nobody was saying that, however, the Kontakt filters and per/voice processing isn't top notch and that's actually a limitation that one has to think about. In fact, I would argue that, except for a few well designed products that are suitable given the limitations, that Kontakt analog synth libraries aren't really the best way to get an analog synth sound.

I fully agree with that. The only thing I'll add is that while light on editing features, they seem to have it priced really competitively. I'd personally pay more for a "pro" version with the features you mentioned, but I can see how they wanted to come in under a certain dollar amount to generate a certain volume of sales. Who knows? Maybe we'll see them develop this more over time. They certainly have with other IK products.ghettosynth wrote:I think that in this thread people are reading more pejorative intent into the words limitations and romplers than is intended. My initial use of the word was simply to say that the choice to make a product a rompler comes with specific limitations as described above.JJ_Jettflow wrote:ghettosynth wrote:
I think that we've already touched on this. Osc sync is a great example. There's no native sync on this machine so you have to rely on it being a part of the sample. This is to be expected, right? What does the notion of resetting a waveform mean when the waveform represents more than a single cycle? Same can be said about FM.
So, one can't dismiss these "limitations" as an artifact of history, they are real. Virtually all sample based, in the classic sense, instruments have these limitations. Modeled synthesizers are not restricted by the technology in the same way.
Oh for sure it has limitations but so did some hardware synths. Not all came with cross-mod or ring-mod, had fixed pole filters, etc...which is one thing I dislike about some modelled synths. They put a bunch of features that never existed before into a "faithful reproduction" of a vintage instrument. I am most likely a minority in that kind of thinking though.
Personally, I look at Syntronik to compliment my other softsynths; not to rely on it completely; just as I did with my Proteus.
It's like people getting offended that you called a F150 a pickup truck and started talking about its limitations. That's what it is, and it has limitations, if you need it to be a car, it may not work for you. Similarly, if you really need Synctronic to be a synthesizer on the level of the synths that it samples, it probably won't work for you.
Beyond that, the IK product also has a selection of limitations which I do intend to be criticism. It is too basic IMO. There's no reason to exclude a pitch envelope, inverted envelope modulation, and other features as I've described. Moreover, it hardly makes sense to include a bunch of different front panel pictures when they're all the same. That's just silly.
With respect to including features not in the original, this product does that in spades. The TB never had a full EG.

The update to the SampleTank 3 engine will support Syntronik sounds, will not feature the arpeggiator at this time, and will include the new filters and DRIFT.DarkStar wrote:Q: If I load a Syntronik instrument into ST3, do I still have all the Syntronik features? I just wanted to make sure I have noted that the Syntronik GUI is resizable/zoomable.wagtunes wrote: And the worst part is, when I do test a synth and come back and say the GUI is too small, I get everybody telling me "Get a bigger monitor" or do this or do that. You guys can't even accept my simple "The GUI is too small" and have to give me a hard time about it.

I'm in..pre-orered today. For me, the biggest selling point is the quality of tone. Put the demo of J8 up against the Roland Jupiter 8 plugout and they sounded great together. So close in tone.

yes, i'll likely preorder as well. i hate programming synths so things like Syntronik are ideal for me. i wonder how do these stack up against UVI synths. i mean, except for the price

Peter: Will the SampleTank Custom Shop version support this too or only the full SampleTank 3. If we don't have the latter will it have its own GUI like the old SampleTron/SampleMoog (any chance they'll ever see 64bit builds ?)

they already can be used in 64-bit by using them in SampleTank 3. the GUI was just a skin. with Syntronik, as Peter said, the arpeggiator won't be part of SampleTank (not at the outset at least), so Syntronik's GUI would be more functional than just a skin.

Yeah that's what I've been doing, though they seemed to need conversion to work in SampleTank Custom Shop - Don't know if that's because they were in old Sampletank 2.x format or something slightly different again ?Burillo wrote:they already can be used in 64-bit by using them in SampleTank 3. the GUI was just a skin.
