Ingonator wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2020 4:01 pm Independent of the basic sound also the differences in features and differnt sounding effects make it impossible to replicate all my patches in OB-Xa V. For me OBsession simply works perfectly "as is" and it is a "true instrument" for me and not just another synth.
As just seen with replicating that Bass patch some things also seem to work differently in OB-Xa V which could be a bit confusing after having done tons of patches with OBsession.
Which, to me, is a real bonus. 2 emulations of the same beast, with 2 different approaches that *can* sound the "same", but completely different as well. I love that, to be honest. More tools to play with :tu:

Disclaimer; i am far from a hardware synth purist. I just love good tools. OB-Xa V and Obsession are both good tools. For sure

TIMT wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2020 3:16 pm Well, this was disappointing.this honestly just sounds like Dune to me with a "specialised"sound.same for Legend too.they all have a Synapse house sound that sounds a bit tame to me(i could go into specifics but not much point when every reply to this now is going to be "it's practically identical and you wont be able to tell in a mix...") .still a damn sight better than the Arturia offering, but i'll stick with my OB-6,Matrix 6 and 1000 for that Obie poly stuff :tu:
Translation: I refuse to admit that emulations are great and I can’t listen to anything that’s not a hardware synth. Sure, have a preference with hardware. I have a studio full of them that I love, but to say this synth sounds like Dune or Legend... You can’t be both a cork-sniffer and not be able to tell the difference between a red or white wine.

"Here's another comparison, this time for the OB-XA vs the emulation we are working on:

http://www.synapse-audio.com/obxa-comparisons.zip

Again it is two runs for both hardware/software. This is particularly important for the OB-XA, since each note triggers a difference voice, and each voice has its own timbre, in addition to the varying oscillator phases. So playing the same sequence multiple times leads to a different output each time.

Could you guys tell the difference if you were blind tested? For me the differences are so minuscule (or non existent), I wouldn't even care anymore. Obsession is great.
Those all sound like Dune to me.

Just a reminder:
Might be better if Ingonator made it clear that he worked for Synapse as Betatester and Patchcreator for Obsession.

So he's not entitled to have a opinion?

I worked as a beta tester on Obsession as well. I still prefer Arturia's OB-Xa. It is all so subjective. And that is not to say i don't like Obsession. I love it.

Thought id give the demo a try, i was happy to see they support OS 10.11 as i'm on an old 2008 Mac Pro and firms like Native Instruments have now abandoned me.

I was using Ableton Live 10 and thought the CPU usage was great compared to Repro whilst i was banging out chords on the KordBot.

What i did notice was in the whole hour of demoing there wasn't once the tiniest of bugs, if i was banging away with Repro and KordBot id of had the odd CPU spike or clip.

I couldn't give a $hite about emulations and if it sounds like a Oberhiem or not, i like its simplicity i felt very comfortable with it straight away.

Preset "Mission Green" if id of closed my eyes and you told me i was using my MatrixBrute i'd of believed you.

Preset "Hermman" turn off the effects, knock the filter cut off to "0" hold down a bass note and thats where i'm living

I'm older and wiser now, so i won't instantly buy i'll use the demo until it expires and then i'll assess if the wallet is worth cracking open.

I thought this was already clear based on my posts here and in the older OBsession threads and i never told the opposite. The patch we discussed about was one of my factory presets and that was mentioned in my posts too...
But i will not mention this with every post i am doing here.

You are not entitled to that. You either love or hate. No grey shades! :smack:

Now i know about the difference in the filter keytracking settings i also know how to do it in OB-Xa V and FWIW i did already know how to do it in at least 2 other synths.
