Cubase 12 released

Sometimes when starting Cubase 12 I'll see this.. The Checking Licenses process just sits there and generates a CPU load. It seems like it's supposed to start as a background process, but fails to do so..
Restart Cubase 12, and about 20 seconds later.. no Checking Licenses (License server is now running as a background process). Sometimes it'll do the same minus the Object server process.

Regarding CPU usage - Not just Triton Extreme. For realtime performance with Softube Model 84 - Maxed out polyphony, default patch - 8% CPU Cubase 10.5, ~20% Cubase 12. The VST 3 version is similarly higher, so it's not just VST 2 then. I don't know what the hell is going on.
I'm going back to 10.5 for now.. Even for my test system it's got too many issues here. Might wipe and try to clean install Cubase 12 at some point later.

So performance is worse with C12 ? By a considerable amount judging by those numbers.PAK wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 11:01 pm Regarding CPU usage - Not just Triton Extreme. That's something to put me right off C12.

i think the % of CPU cycles would be better known with rendering tests instead of just eyeballing the meter. CPU meters can be inaccurate in my experience.
On OSX i haven't noticed much of a difference to Cubase 11. Except there is far less audio glitching, or at least the audio dropouts are less taxing on the ears. Slightly
I did spend a day mixing and had quite a few crashes on one particular project, but it's a fooking massive project with 100% third-party plugins, so it's to be expected i guess... new Cubase, new M1, new OS, new silicon versions, new iLok beta etc
It's had to track down the real culprit sometimes.
But overall C12 is stable enough for me to write in it. Like i said, i use 100% third party plugins, so i'm possibly asking for trouble. But it feels better than C11. and I get to wander around the house and yard writing ideas without a f**king USB dongle sticking out which is possibly some rose coloured glasses but hey

tbh If the Cbase performance meter is 20% over 8% thats not good, regardless of accuracy, because when that maxes out, it causes drop outs.
If it's showing an increase in V12 over V11 for the same plugins, thats really bad.

true
that does suck.
has anyone else had a similar CPU experience with any other third party plugins?
I don't own the plugins mentioned, but i'd like to test any i might own.

Many over at the sb forum.
I myself don't upgrade anymore due to the new licensing system.

According to a lot of users on the usual infamous audio forum sites, the new license system for Cubase Pro 12 is already broken by some mediocre crackers. Steinberg must have made one terrible mistake somewhere?
Just days after the official release it's now the most popular download on pirate sites. Same thing seems to have happened with Dorico release.
By looking in the Steinberg forum, a lot of legit owners have been struggling to upgrade to C12, and some have even lost their license all of a sudden (Cubase won't start because all licenses are taken etc).
As a legit Cubase user I can't even demo C12! It sucks that pirates now can use it before legit users....
It seems like this new protection is making the legit users struggle more than the pirates. I'm really curious how Steinberg let this happen?

Yes. For whatever reason it generates significantly higher load with realtime usage Vs 10.5 (Same sample rates, bit depth, latency etc, not ASIO guard related). Something weird is happening - at least on certain configs. (Win10 21H2 btw)LeVzi wrote: Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:39 amSo performance is worse with C12 ? By a considerable amount judging by those numbers. IIRC They do recommend at least a 4th generation i7, and the generation I'm testing on is earlier than that. So I wonder if it's related to a lack of optimisation / testing on earlier generation CPU's? Something's up anyway..
Even just the Cubase process (which varies between 0 and 4% as it idles) tends to typically idle higher for longer periods under Cubase 12, and (given some of the behaviour I've observed) I do wonder if it's related to the new copy protection, which seems to have a bit of a mind of its own.
Sometimes the licensing will start as a foreground process under Cubase, constantly generating CPU load, sometimes running as a background process (where a similar CPU load is observed, but is now attributed to the main Cubase executable directly). It's the copy protections real lack of any consistency which makes me assume it's not behaving as it should. Plus protection generating nearly 4% load constantly is a bit of a red flag

loooooool yup, its on pirate sites already gg, and CPU performance seems to be worse for me also. Shouldnt of paid 100$ for the upgrade to get worse performance lame
I havent tried with a big project yet, just tried with triton extreme. ON pro 11 i get 1.9% CPU usuage, on 12 I get 3%...
but the pirate sites dont even matter TBH, this will just make cubase more popular. FL studio is the most popular daw because it's the most pirated, a good % of pirateboys turn into official owners later down the road I believe. Everyone who pirates FL studio is gunna wanna try cubase now
kinda lame though

I also have an I7 12700k, so it's not a CPU issue...

So now all the questions from pirates will begin, "I recently upgraded from Cubase 5 to Cubase 12..."cnt wrote: Tue Mar 08, 2022 9:59 am According to a lot of users on the usual infamous audio forum sites, the new license system for Cubase Pro 12 is already broken by some mediocre crackers. Just FYI - updated on day 2 and no licensing or stability hitches.pixel85 wrote: Sat Mar 05, 2022 10:06 pm So now even licenses are disappearing. People are using C12 one day and another... It looks like this new licensing system still needs time to mature.
From one side I feel sorry for those who are in this situation, and they have incoming deadlines, but on the other hand, updating software a few seconds after it was announced is a rookie mistake.
Hard to say on performance. Some things seem better, some worse.

I guess Steinberg realised that they were going to get pirated and just assumed the user base they'd gain and keep from dropping the dongle was worth it.
But dropping VST2 as well, might cause them a hit too.
C12 seems to me like it's in dire need of some fixes.
