My plugin expenses came to around $500. Soundtoys, TDR, Izotope, and Waves. The free ones by Valhalla and Sonimus are helpful. When I realized this is half the cost of a laptop, I stopped. Also playing with other DAWs such as Ableton Standard and Reaper, which is just over $200.

Never did a countup but I never spent more than a few hundred dollars. All the VSTs and packs I get on sale.

This year?
Only $60.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Don’t know but only paid full price a few times when I was a beginner. Back then that was the only choice. A little later group sales started to appear and was a better chance to pay less. Anyway I’ve paid more for hardware, guitars, bass, audio interfaces, kemper and PC’s.

I’ve spent around £1000 total over 6 years, like some others earlier in the thread this has been in large chunks every 2 years or so - Waves & Softube mainly, then plugin-alliance and most recently Sonible and SSL

Sheesh!

I've spent more on computers over the past couple decades than I have on plugins.
My preference is to have a really good computer, so I build myself a new one every 3 to 4 years. I typically build something close to bleeding edge technology. But never the newest fastest thing. It usually costs me about $1K to build, but since covid, everything has gone up, and am looking at @$1.5K to build. My old computer goes to the wife, who then uses it for the next 3 to 4 years, so the box itself really never gets wasted.
I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent

Honestly I try not to think about it. By now probably close to 2-3k+

Well...I keep record of everything I buy and sell in a spreadsheet. UAD took most my money for some years. Sold em all with a huge loss.
I only buy plugins that I keep needing. I dont buy NFR or products that doesnt have a long demo (not based on install time but usage time) or too restricted demo.. I also stay away from plugins that need a license server to be active... been burned.
Also getting a subscription to test everything for a month is worth it. Then only buy what you need.

And...those no-brainer deals are just a waste of money, time and diskspace. I have something like 50 plugs that I dont ever use even tho i paid "no-brainer" price or get-for-free-right-now deals...

Spent around 3-4k
