I'm so impressed with Bitwig in version 6. For the first time I'm considering switching from Ableton.

considering switching from cubase - which is for sure more feature rich overall. but its something about how much fun im having when I open bitwig that isn't even comparable. giant smiles on my face.

to me the biggest flaw of bitwig is this browser is a sh!t show. wanting plugin self categorizing and sub categorizing. wishing for a command for the pop up browser to insert the audio sample or loop into the track at current position (like a shift enter). why on an audio track in the pop up browser does the audio go to a sampler and convert it to a hybrid track? why do I have to drag and drop it.

if i get the energy to organize my plugins into collections in the bitwig browser id for sure make the switch its pretty much the only thing keeping me back.

The DAW itself is getting better and better. Love it.

If they upgraded the grid with max4live type features then it’d seriously threaten ableton.

So I take it Bitwig doesn’t have a scripting language (one that’s open to users, I mean). Because, as it happens, some DAWs other than Ableton Live do.

Under the hood they use a custom scripting language called Nitro but it’s not available for users unless you hack install files.

Yes, browser and other annoyances are preventing me from going full into Bitwig. Ableton in the mean time just works perfectly for me. But on the other side, Bitwig has other things that make it so fun indeed. I guess I will keep both in the end.

In your opinion, what types of FX or instruments don’t have real replacements among Bitwig’s built-in devices? I know for sure I’ll still keep using Kontakt, Camel Crusher, OTT, iZotope Ozone, and RX De-click.

Synthwise I think Bitwig is very well covered if you can live with weird presets and often diving deep into the synthesis to get a good sounding result...
The Sampler has some really nice features but lacks of of proper timestretch and inbuilt slicing and some weird decisions i.e. the zone selector isn´t able to use a grid of full numbers but i.e. 88.7 or other decimal numbers... Ableton with just full numbers is more thought through imo... hard to stay precise/quantized in Bitwig in this regard

Filters, Distortion, Modulation, Delay and Dynamics (including user made OTT presets) are very useable and don´t need necessarily to be replaced by any 3rd party plugin...
Because of Bitwig´s flexible system and deep container system you can realize already a lot...

For me the most weak part of Bitwig natives is Reverb...
Their inbuilt algorhythmic one I personally find ridiculous ... it´s for me easily the worst native reverb I ever found in any DAW
Their convolution reverb is very little on features but otoh quite CPU intense... not a showstopper but giving little while taking a lot is not what I prefer... it has imho the best file browser though...

yepp, can waste infinite time screwing around with BWS reverb and it still never sounds right.
