No, it was a digital filter. But it was reportedly better than the one in the current software version.Arashi wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 9:35 amThe original JD-800 did not have a VCF either, just to be clear.Chrisk-K wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 7:33 amYeah….without the JD’s legendary filter the software version is a fake JD-800.gentleclockdivider wrote: Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:59 pm Yep it uses the zencore TVF filter ( not vcf ) which has a max freq of 11khz .
The same filter is used in their cloud srx series , xv5080 , integra 7 (pcm synth engine )
This filter has been recycled to death
The og jd800-990 filter maxed out at12 khz and is considered to be the best digital filter roland has ever created .
Not including the legendary filter in this release is just stupid ,a shameles cash grab .

Unless I am missing something there, I only see one there that can be downloaded: Internal Preloaded factory soundbank.OrionAlpha101 wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 8:38 am Eric Persing Special Bank

Did anyone could import banks so far? Convert sysex to bin? Is there a collection maybe?
I wanted to buy don solaris patches but i think these are sysex only? And i dunno overall if jd990 patches work on jd800?

Has anyone actually provided any evidence to support that claim? Not saying it isn’t true, but so far I haven’t seen any proof.fmr wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 9:45 am No, it was a digital filter. But it was reportedly better than the one in the current software version.

It's just a matter of compare the sounds between the hardware and the software, as was already done from recordings, and compare the sounds with the model included in Zenology. What part of this is hard to understand for you?Arashi wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 9:56 pmHas anyone actually provided any evidence to support that claim? Roland is doing a pretty lame job with the Cloud for more than a year now.

You're missing something. At the bottom there's an "All the web" link, which is a collection of free patches for the JD800, along with the 100 or so commercial patch collections listed there.Examigan wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 10:20 amUnless I am missing something there, I only see one there that can be downloaded: Internal Preloaded factory soundbank.
Not that it'll do you any good since Roland didn't provide a way to import them.

Thanks. Now if there was a converter to get them into the bin format...or Roland could add syx import.

I don't own the hardware, obviously, and was asking if anyone else had already done the comparison. If so, maybe you could share a link or something. If not, then it's just an unverified claim.fmr wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 10:04 pm It's just a matter of compare the sounds between the hardware and the software, as was already done from recordings, and compare the sounds with the model included in Zenology. I've seen that guy's videos, but he's just comparing presets without doing any tweaking, and doesn't do a deep dive into the authenticity of the filter specifically.

I just noticed the button on the JD-800 for renaming a patch is spelled "Renane". It's a small thing but I thought it was a bit ironic as they will have to rename it.

You will hear the difference only in presets that heavily use filters. For example, compare "Classic Sweeper" preset (which relies on resonant HP filter sweeps) between the original (check Synthmania's video, for example) and the new JD-800. The difference is like night and day. Compared to the filter sweeps on the original hardware version, those on the software version sound pretty lame.Arashi wrote: Sun Oct 31, 2021 9:56 pmHas anyone actually provided any evidence to support that claim? Yeah, but Arashi is still correct about having a specific test. Not least because there doesn't seem to be anything readily available and the original claims all appear to originate from a single person. Whilst the claims tend to "tie in" with overall impressions, it's also a synth with EQ, spectrum, and enhancer functions. IE It requires a specific test.Chrisk-K wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 6:08 pmYou will hear the difference only in presets that heavily use filters. Pre-recorded sequences aren't ideal either, not least because there'll often be differences in even the basic tone quality due to being recorded via the analogue domain (unless you adjust for it when recording you'll often have to add compression to a plugin just to start out with equivalent level perception, much less anything else.)
