Good marketing step from Presonus. People buy artist, then(i think for sure) upgrade to Pro, and then a few months later to version 2. So it's like buying new DAW for full price :)

Good marketing from Presonus, and personally, a great deal for me.

Most people i know are happy to use as is and wont be updating, It is way too costly for most people to update at the minute (Hard times and all that)

Found a nice deal on ebay a couple of days back for the upgrade, came out to $170. So that's the full version of Studio One for about $190.11.

Turned out pretty well. Waiting on the package to arrive. Will probably be able to get in on that half off waves musician bundle deal with this too.

It's a nice product imo. It's not going to replace PT or Logic or similar in the wider pro industry anytime soon for the masses if even ever ...

... I mean, honestly, Nuendo has been trying to supplant PT in "the industry" for some years, it's not gonna happen on any really meaningful scale ...

... but S1 will continue to be yet another potentially attractive and affordable additional option for many people who enjoy making music.

It won't win the daw wars anytime soon and I don't think they're even trying to do that, the developers, but maybe the marketing department didn't get that memo yet. :hihi:

Exactly! And it breaks the cost up if you do want to upgrade. it probably was a consideration but again i don't think the promo was cynical. If i like the host well enough i'll upgrade anyway.... and then upgrade to V2 in 2 months time.

I have mostly enjoyed my 20.11 experience. In some ways, I'm in love with it.

They are most likely to get my other cash though as I really couldn't live for long without my amp sims and things like superior drummer.

OMG, the jambalaya recipe is too cool

If my spidey sense is accurate, there will be a large percentage of "20.11" users upgrading when the next version drops ... which may have been part of the evil plan all along. [insert evil laugh here again]

Like flies in a spider web I tell ya...

How do I get in on this offer now?

I have to say here that it will need to be something very very special this next version to get most people to upgrade, the more time i spend with S1 the more little features i find missing that makes it a bit of a chore to use for a few tasks.

I do think however though anybody who can handle the colors (I cant, shitty eyes) and don't want anything too powerful in terms of editing and so on, S1 is unsurpassed in rapid workflows.

Yeah. I hope they listen to your concerns about that. I heard you loud and clear and I don't even edit / work that way. On the plus side those 2 things don't seem to be major coding endeavors so maybe they'll slip them in more sooner than later. I hope so.

Anyway, I'm really not one to dismiss valuable things because I don't personally need them. Those things - as you described - seem valuable.

So fingers crossed for some love as they say.

My personal "gotcha" things are mostly midi editing related so I'm waiting for some things too and in those cases the workarounds or manual edits take a good bit more time... so yeah, in those instances you want to speed up the clock a bit.

I see it from the MIDI side of things too Lawrence.
Much like most of the newer bread of DAW ala Reaper too, the MIDI works and feels very very much like "Oh shit we forgot MIDI, bolt it on quick" hahaha.
(Although i do believe in the case of S1 that the devs have an interest in MIDI more so than the Reaper devs)

What were your issues with "editing"? Audio tracks?

Can't find the specific reference(s).

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil
