I can confirm this. The 64-bit dll and the uninstall files will be saved in the default folder chosen by the program. The 32-bit gets installed in the folder chosen by the user though.
I also can confirm this. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update. Not a big thing, but it doesnt look good, if I browse through my HD ... I need everything in order.

I just want to add that I also hate how the presets work... Also flow wise it seems like nearly all vats have the dry/wet mix on the furthest right hand side... Logically like reading a book. It drives me crazy to go to the left... Seems like the more important stuff like depth, etc should be there. ;)

Just my thoughts...

Sound wise, it's no lexicon but its goooooood. :)

I mean if I open the preset menu both "USER PRESETS:" and "VALHALLA PRESETS:" menu's are empty. In EnergyXT 2.5.4 on Windows 7 that is.
I see no presets at all here so I can't even complain about the browser because there is nothing to browse through

Could it be a bug? Am I perhaps doing something wrong? An incompatibility with my host perhaps? Or does it just come with no presets? Anyone?

ValhallaRoom comes with factory presets (called VALHALLA PRESETS). Not sure why they aren't showing up for you. I just tried installing EnergyXT, and the program crashed each time I tried to load a plugin, whether they were my own plugins or from another company. I'll give it another try later today.

Why does Room want to install a global hook on load? Very few plugins do this, Shimmer never did.

Always curious why simple VSTs feel the need to do such a drastic thing, but of course set the firewall to deny and don't know how to track what the hooks do.

Thanks Sean, but I just found out what has caused this :)

Because of the installer bug where the dll's are always installed to "c:\VstPlugins" I've manually copied the dll to my own vstplugins location and then used the uninstaller to delete the ones from the original location.

But the factory presets are stored elsewhere (the hidden folder "c:\ProgramData\Valhalla DSP, LLC\ValhallaRoom\Factory Presets") and they where uninstalled too, so therefore I couldn't find any.

Personally I think it would be more convenient to store the factory presets and user presets (which are in a different location than the factory ones) in the same folder as where the dll resides..

The simplicity of just a dll and a keyfile like Shimmer was the most convenient of all imho.

Yeah but then if you have separate directories for vst32 and 64 you'll end up with 2 preset locations and there lies confusion. I much prefer one central place for common files like presets.

And the ProgramData folder isn't esoteric at all.
It's a very convenient place where all kinds of software store user data -
go: back it up regularly.

Happy Easter everybody!

Yeah true, I think this (the new preset system) must have been the reason why this comes with an installer and the other ones didn't.

But then the installer should have been tested a little better, because blindly installing to a particular folder, while the user has choosen otherwise is a serious bug imo.

Yeah, well some programs just leave their stuff there after uninstall and others don't. Makes it a bit of a mess really. If it was the only place where programs store their data then it wasn't so bad, but there are other places where programs dump their data in too. In user files for instance (which I do automatically backup by the way. I have all my data on a separate disk, but ProgramData does not like to reside there).

Besides, why do the factory presets get deleted after uninstall and the settings files don't?

No it isn't esoteric you are right, however it is a way of dumbing down installs for people who don't like to keep tabs on installed data, storing presets next to the .dll is simply the best way to do this and the x64 32 argument is not really even valid, the user should be able to decide where it is placed, simple as that.
Hopefully Sean will look into this when he uploads a version that us effected by the preset bug can try, the plugin sounds OK, like has been stated it is no Lex but at $50 that is hard to expect, it is up there with most free reverbs and compares well to some commercial ones too, so i'm looking forward to trying a new version with bugs fixed ;)

I was about to look past the childish interface, and purchase it...

I'll watch this thread, and see how things pan out :?

New installer for ValhallaRoom 1.0.3 Demo is available at

http://www.valhalladsp.com/room/demos/V ... V1_0_3.zip

What has changed:

- Fixed installer folder issues (i.e. it will only install the .dlls in the folders you specify)
- Changes to my own preset browser code, to reduce unnecessary accesses to file system
- Changes to Juce code for having components stay on the top, and for shadowing. Some of the crashes seemed linked to this code.

No need to look past it! Here's a quote from my own marketing:

"The GUI has been designed for easy navigation, and is inspired by Joseph Müller-Brockmann, NASA control panels, and Sesame Street." (italics mine)

I am unabashedly inspired by my childhood memories of certain toys, books and TV shows. Fisher-Price has AMAZING UX ("UX" is shorthand for "User Experience" which is an important concept in the area of interactive design). Goodnight Moon, with its bold yet muted colors and emphasis on typography, is a masterpiece. Sesame Street in the 1970's made heavy use of the Futura typeface, and my use of this in ValhallaRoom intentionally reflected this influence.

It is worth noting that the designers who created these iconic works for children shared many of the same modern design school influences as ValhallaRoom. The clean lines of modern Swiss design, the Bauhaus emphasis on typography as a design element, and the Soviet Constructivist use of blocks of bold color, saturate the design of these toys, books and shows. The same influences can be explicitly found in the iPhone/iPad GUI. And my 5 year old can navigate through iOS just fine.

One of my deepest held beliefs is that design should reflect the medium in which it is constructed. For ValhallaRoom and the other Valhalla DSP plugins, this translates to avoiding any ersatz 3D elements. The GUI is NOT a 3D entity. It is a 2D construction that exists only on your monitor. It is made of bits of light. It is not modeled on any existing hardware. Fake shadows, fake modeled knobs and buttons, etc., just don't make sense in this context. The ValhallaRoom GUI embraces the 2D reality of the medium we work in.

My goal with the ValhallaRoom GUI was to create something that was clean, bold, modern, and easy to use. These are the same characteristics found in all well designed children's toys, as usability is most critical for that audience. If my GUI evokes childhood influences, then I take this as the highest of compliments.
