So why not address these? You made a shoe to fit a straw man, which means you created a generalized thing which "1 of 3" groups adhere to, or some shit.1-2-Many wrote: The following snippets are merely from pages 1-4 of this thread:No Straw man here, nothing invented...For plenty more statements like these just continue reading from page 5, I'm sure there's more. That's what I don't like about presets, to have a sound that 1000 other Joe's can have too…
it just seems lame to hold down a note on someone else's ambient widget patch and repeat until you've got a soundscape.
....but ultimately an elctronic musician should strive to know how to use at least one synth inside out (the synth is one of the core instruments of an electronic musician) ...unless he plans to make shitty generalistic edm ala avcii or just be a keayboard player.
an electronic musician who doesn't try and push boundaries synthwise is not worth listening .
imo preset culture is the cancer of modern electronic music .
I would say that if you want to call yourself a talented or gifted musician, then you better make your own sounds.
Do you resemble those remarks? Do they hit a nerve? This kind of thread goes wambly because of a giant difference in perspective at the forum. There it is in your quote mining. There are battle lines drawn between people that are in a great hurry to produce that do not evidence much curiosity about music or sound and people that are deeply interested in it.
So this difference typically manifests itself in 'presets poll'. I think it isn't a very accurate place to draw the lines. I do create sounds you never heard, out of nothing, but if it's more bread and butter, why bother? In the middle of that continuum, start with a basis and work with that. Most of us seemed to agree.
Did you think it was useful or interesting to announce that people that believe they are after a 'new' or 'yet to be heard' sound suffer from a delusion? You came in looking for a fight. You wanted us to think of you as more or less aloof, you can't be arsed to read it but you're so not aloof, you couldn't resist the fighting words.
So it fell to me to point out, that's bullshit? You're extremely invested in the thread (You needed to build someone that was so wrong he was deluded. I don't see it in your evidence so I'm sticking with 'straw man'.).
SO:
What is specifically so objectionable about the opinions you quoted? I think you resembled the remarks.
