Hopefully Peter's not still clinging on to the idea that we are all awaiting the "surprise."

The little synth sounds fine. I'm not a fan of pots for multifunction knobs though. It's even enough to kill my interest in the DM12. It's probably of less concern on something like this, but it would still annoy me. I much prefer rotary encoders if you're going to make a knob control more than one function. The Matrix 12 had it right in 1986.

It's cute. I hate 1/8" jacks as a primary audio out. I like the sound of the filter. Having two VCOs is nice, assuming that they're actual VCOs.

That first minute though...
Confucamus.

Shame though that noone understands that you have to make marketing blurb to make people buy, because first world consumers are so wealth depraved that a ordinary product is not good enough for them, but they need "the next big thing", "the game changer", or "the product which rules them all". There's nothing smart in telling a salesman that his marketing slogans aren't true. In fact, it is pretty stupid, because you will never be able to run a business telling people the stuff you sell is just ordinary. The trick is to take it for what it is. But, i doubt that more than 10% of the people posting in this thread are even interested in this, or any other IK products anyway. It's about showing off the smart internet dick.
This is actually best description of whole melodrama and your later description is 100% true.

Actually i did not expect it from you but oh well. Nice.

Ok one website posted what it is and a video of interface. Not going to ruin (ruined) party but many people guessed correctly.

Where i am really shocked is price. If price is indeed that which is revealed then yes it's big shift in my opinion at least when it comes to "being affordable" and many people will be able to buy product.

Cheers

p.s. kudos for nice girl in the video. I like girl power lately and i like nice girls even more ehehe - we need more girls in this part of universe

Apparently so, and ota as you guessed before

Not sure how those midi inputs work, never seen em before. There is room for standard din inputs...

Anyway, no knob per function, and for a simple monosynth, this is essential in hardware.

YOU are RIGHT BUT there are things like "delivery" and market in wich you are going to sell the product. There are more delicate ways to tell your product is great and the reasons why you should buy it. But most important is the delivery. If you are going to make such statement like IK does, you have to make sure you deliver because musicians are not some desperate housewives looking for some new revolutionary diet yoghurt that makes theyr fat burn  On the other hand big thumbs up to IK for a shock value and bad publicity, because you actually make your company stand out :D

IK products are great (mostly), but marketing in most cases is a mis (in a bad way) no matter what you say. The way IK aproaches is like they are trying to sell a chocolate bar or some new random upcoming "Bigroom dj/producer" prenteding to be a new rock star and advertising his new song.

About the product, i think its great, definatly not a revolutionary, far from that, but great if not amazing for the given the price and its offerings (tho i didnt find any info about the modulation?) and the sound.

Does the synth fits the description?
Something new is coming from the leader in analog modeling technology .Get ready for a paradigm shift as IK Multimedia will unveil a brand new and exciting product!
Its opposite to 180 degree :) well ok i will give 170 degrees because its less expensive then say Korg Monologue. :)

Peter - can this synth be used as a midi controller ? :)

That would be really insane and if you could combine those samples with existing synth, that would be something incredible :)

Post

And yet there are developers who are well-known and well-regarded in this community like U-he, Klanghelm, Valhalla and Cytomic who do barely any "marketing" at all. Maybe I can accept those practices in other spaces, but bringing them here looks out-of-touch.

Well, I guess all this fuss did make me have a quick look at the product. It looks like it's somewhere between a Volca and a Pulse 2. Wow, paradigm smashed.

Yeah. I was hoping that IK would combine its sample+modeling tech into hardware. If I could load samples from a card, combine & sequence them in the synth, and then save the track back on that card, it would paradigm-shift me into a new dimension.

Yes sex sells (me too...) But did you look closer? If she would really play that toy, she would have cut her finger nails instead of painting them...

Post

This toy sounds good and the video posted is better marketing material than this thread.
~stratum~

it sound okay...not a revolution ...it is priced a little too more expensive , 150 € would be better.

Right !?!

Post

It tells us at 0.48 that "only true analogue can offer" .........

So, there we have it, proof that only hardware synths are real synths !

Post

It sounds okay, but not interesting. The main selling argument is the price, no doubt.
Elektronisch wrote:can this synth be used as a midi controller ? :)
It probably can as it has Midi out with non standard connections, but the biggest flaw of the box is its lack of controlers, 7 pots is not much to tweak and you have to give it multiple functions. The "keyboard" lacks all expressivity...
Better get real controllers like a seaboard block, combine it with a bunch of pots and you are in heaven...
As controller its even less interesting than as sound source...
