Poll : Would KVR benefit from a video tools forum?

Without even reading that, I can tell you that easy is most certainly a relative term in this case.
Best bet would probably be to hack what they've got there to do what you want.

Easy for a programmer, not me. Everything they need including line by line code is provided.
As for me, it would easier for me to just buy Resolume Arena if that’s what I have to do, still cheaper than a 4K projector and a lot more possibilities - Resolume does a lot more than projector mapping. All those guys on Psychedelic Light Show Review use it now. It seems a bit much for home use, but if that’s what it takes.
I’d get everything set up on the trial version, then just activate that when everything was up and running and I get the cash up.

Here is a Projector warp and blend addon for openFrameworks
https://github.com/charlesveasey/ofxWarpBlend
On the off chance there are any potential developers out there who are thinking: “Damn, I would develop a Spout enabled warp and blend app if only I could do it in openFrameworks”, whatever that is.

probably best to ask for development in the dsp forum, drop a hint it might be cool to knock up a sonic synth.
we don't know if any devs/coders are even looking at this thread.

Yeah, maybe I should try posting something over there in a while.vurt wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 6:05 pm probably best to ask for development in the dsp forum, drop a hint it might be cool to knock up a sonic synth.

Here is a Projection mapping addon for openFrameworks that works on the Raspberry Pi that’s probably at least related to what you recall:whyterabbyt wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 9:50 am I also seem to recall something free for the RasPi but I cant remember much more than that Im afraid.

EDIT: with the seemingly very generous availability of NVidia resources for projector warp and blend plus these open source warp and blend add-ons there almost has to be some open source or relatively inexpensive software with those capabilities. The search goes on…

You know you can also do it manually, with Blender pretty easily, you just have to match the camera settings to the projectors and render separate media for each projector like I said at the start. In the end it's still a 2D projection, blender can handle whatever 3D parts you want in the render, curved and irregular projections or whatever. Otherwise just pony up and buy the software that works for you.

Blender only has Spout output, so in order to do what you describe I would have build a light show and then chop it up to watch it — that’s is the opposite of what I want to do, which is experience a light show and record it.
I can’t believe there are all these free resources offering warp and blend and nobody ever took advantage — there has to be other alternatives to Resolume, but if not I’ll buy it.
Maybe video is the wrong fit for KVR.

Well for one thing, not everybody uses Nvidia, as a developer it's not the best idea to require particular hardware for your projects. From what I've seen most of these things are using opengl, which has all that stuff built into it already as projection mapping is a fundamental function in the world of 3D graphics. The thing that makes them commercial is the functionality to tie it all together, control the hardware and serve all the media over a network, so it all works together all slick like. For that, you have to pay. That's why it costs so much, and apparently there is not really any comparable/significantly more affordable competition, otherwise they would not be able to sell it for that much.
*Blend is even more fundamental, it's literally just the multiplication of 2 colors with a percentage
parameter typically.

And yet, there are members here doing this very thing. Exploring, experimenting, researching, sharing their experience and interests, and discussing it with you.guitarzan wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 12:53 am Blender only has Spout output, so in order to do what you describe I would have build a light show and then chop it up to watch it — that’s is the opposite of what I want to do, which is experience a light show and record it.

Curious.

Yep… Resolume Arena it is, I do believe. It is actually a steal compared to the commercial software that pretty much only does warp and blend and often cost up to 10X what Resolume Arena does. Apparently a corporation’s main function is to hemorrhage investor cash.

Yeah, sorry about that. Most of what I have been posting about projectors is just to document my search, I’m not demanding some kind of action or instant answers.Shabdahbriah wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 3:42 amAnd yet, there are members here doing this very thing. Curious.
This thread will end up in other people’s search results and maybe I can save someone some time or maybe my dead ends will lead someone else right to where they want to go.
If there was an actual forum then my projector thing could just be topic that could be freely ignored by all, and that would be fine for things like this that are on topic but of very specific interest — is esoteric the word I’m looking for?
Anyway, carry on…

Considering the amount of time and effort Ive put into answering stuff youve asked and trying to assist you, I find that statement really really disappointing. I now wonder what would actually have been sufficient to not have resulted in this kind of dismissal of the notion.guitarzan wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 12:53 am I can’t believe there are all these free resources offering warp and blend and nobody ever took advantage — there has to be other alternatives to Resolume, but if not I’ll buy it.

Yeah, its a nice intro; I ploughed through his videos right as I started this thread.Shabdahbriah wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 4:08 am ^^^ this guy has a shit-ton of toys. Here, he walks through some of his methodology and processes. Some may be of interest to you.
