I don't like the u-he system. I am sensitive to noise. I just close the plugin after a while rather than listening to noise bursts.bmanic wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 5:47 pm Most people like U-he's demo system. It's quite universally praised. .. but they are NOT noise bursts, not even close. Are you sure you have _actually_ tried U-He demos?Frantz wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:52 pmI don't like the u-he system. I am sensitive to noise. As for Reaper, it has literally no limitations at all except a tiny nag screen at startup. That is not a realistic protection scheme for most. I know a lot of people who consider Reaper "freeware" due to this.Frantz wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:52 pm I like things like SonicCharge, D16, and Reaper where the limitations are very minor in the beginning.
Yes, I have actually tried many u-he demos and own Diva, Repro, Hive, and Carbon Copy.bmanic wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:58 pm .. but they are NOT noise bursts, not even close. Are you sure you have _actually_ tried U-He demos?
"Noise burst" is probably the wrong description. In any case, I have a sensitivity to noise and whatever you want to call u-he's thing, it irritates me a lot. I need to make a decision quickly because I can tolerate it for only a couple of minutes. Maybe it's a good thing? These demo limitations save me money by preventing me from buying non-essential plugins.bmanic wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 8:04 pm Weird, last time I checked a U-He plugin I didn't own, it really was extremely low in volume. Wouldn't call that a "noise burst" at all. Noise burst to me sounds like actual noise that suddenly bursts out, usually louder than the actual audio you are working with, which is unfortunately a protection scheme some dumb developers still use.
I agree, rather annoying sound.Frantz wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 8:03 pmYes, I have actually tried many u-he demos and own Diva, Repro, Hive, and Carbon Copy.bmanic wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:58 pm .. but they are NOT noise bursts, not even close. Are you sure you have _actually_ tried U-He demos?
To me the vinyl-like static sound is annoying. I gave up on Satin and more recently Filterscape specifically because of this "tiny amount of non-invasive noise."
| LinksI totally understand and I do agree with you. Especially for FX plugins, when you want to perhaps test multiple effects in a project and then they all start having random noise all over the place, makes it virtually impossible to test. But in terms of noise annoyance, U-He is pretty low on that list compared to other invasive noise implementations.Frantz wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 8:12 pm"Noise burst" is probably the wrong description. Indeed. I always wonder what kind of metric they use for the demo restriction. I always think about FabFilter. They are, as far as I know, doing absolutely great and have no problems selling their plugins. Yet they offer a fully functional 30 day demo.. and get a nice easy to use demo-reset code if you send them an email and want to demo an old product again. They don't seem to have any issues selling their software. So what is the point of really weird and restricted demo policies? Has anybody actually tried to investigate this? I mean, not just with audio software but software in general.4damind wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 8:42 pm And GForce with the 6h demo... well, that's somewhere pretty far up the scaleI sometimes wonder what kind of ideas some developers come up with to make it particularly difficult for users to want to buy their product

Yes, vinyl-like. LoFi vibes. Some of you think I'm joking...Frantz wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 8:03 pm To me the vinyl-like static sound is annoying. I gave up on Satin and more recently Filterscape specifically because of this "tiny amount of non-invasive noise."
