What's to grok? He's surprised you've never heard of the Chemical Brothers (thus, the "what??????"), and he's recommending their albums caled Dig Your Own Hole and Planet Dust (which is actually called Exit Planet Dust).Beardedone wrote:Sorry I don't grok.Beardedone wrote:

OK Thanks. I wasn't sure. It's way off my radar screen of listening fare.
Cheers,

I gave up on my entry for this month.
I will reveal what it was going to be:
I was going to try to mash-up Captain and Tenille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" with Genesis "Abacab" and some Styx synth melodies.
I know, a completely tasteless combination. Nevertheless, these songs were what got me interested in synthesizers when I was just a lad. Plus, the Captain always wore that cool hat!!

They're not really what I'd call D&B . . . they're worth a listen for sure. Try before you buy, they might not be to your taste. But you never know.Beardedone wrote:It's that different then?

You walk into a Borders store (or other big audio outlet) and you look around to see if they have the Chem's on demo. Or . . . (not a perfect solution by any means) you go to amazon.com and listen to the samples. Best solution, though, is to find someone who owns it and give it a go.Beardedone wrote:If there is a legal way to do that.Try before you buy
Chemical Brothers are big enough it should be easy to find SOME way of getting a listen to them. Don't you have any used CD stores nearby? They'll certainly give you a listen.

Seriously, I actually bought one of those captain hats on Mackinaw Island (a popular tourist destination here in Michigan) because of that Captain and Tenille TV show that was on here in the states. I think it was the bassline on "Love Keep Us Together" that hooked me back then.
Keep in mind that my mom and dad's idea of cool music was Burl Ives, the Sons of the Pioneers, etc., so I didn't have a real wide exposure to any music of interest while growing up. Well, now I kind of dig Sons of the Pioneers as I'm becoming an old fart.
