Hey OldGeezer
I didn't spend much time with the mix at all. Just trying to post an example of something clean and in a different genre then I've heard posted. All the discussion about tone got me curious.
I've been using Reaper, Tracktion 1.6, and Sonar 3 with a low budget audigy 2 sound card, and lots of freebies.
I didn't even realize that free amp had a tremello effect until I started messing with it. I was just trying to find a good starting tone to play with.
The discussion about tone has been good. It made me, a lurker with about 6 posts, contribute.

A big thanks to you Fretted. There are countless others who check this thread daily for updates and never say a word. I was frantic to download Freeamp2 beta. I must of checked 10 times a day for it. It's a great little vst.

I'm Sonar 4 with Kontakt 2 and a few guitar\drum libraries. Just learning really, but I've got an Audigy 2 as well, and it has given me zero problems. I'm considering getting the latest in the series for no other reason than you can run ASIO in 44100 mode on the newer ones (instead of the 48000 we're stuck with)...not sure it's worth the bother though.garyfwayne wrote:Hey OldGeezer

And Fretted Synth, I heard the lawn-mower again. It happens most when I just fire a project up and start playing. It was on the "Rock" preset in this case. It is infrequent enough that it won't stop me from using it. I mean, even if I paid for it, I don't think I'd ask for my money back, heh heh. And since we didn't pay for it, I won't be bugging you for a fix (I don't think two or three users with this problem warrants a fix) I'd say this "Beta" of yours is lookin ready for primetime. I'll keep trying any updates you have, but there's definitely a back-up copy of this version on both my drives.
Thanks man.

Cool tune, you should post more often just to balance out the metal contingency (not that there's anything wrong with metal, just the more genres represented the better). I did also get the little speaker buzz the other guy mentioned. Not complaining, just pointing it out in case you're interested. Only happens on crappy speakers I'm sure (in my case my laptop spkrs)...garyfwayne wrote:Hey OldGeezer

These guys have put their hearts and souls into a free project to give to the whole community, I think that deserves some sensitivity and respect.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:Again, to sensitive ears, anything but arse kissing will sound like an attack.Mr. Tingle wrote:If your comments results in changes that improve the tone for the better then stick around, if not, your wasting everyones time.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:ummmm, yes im here cause apparently many here believe it can get the sound im looking for....Mr. Tingle wrote:You still here? this product is not for the likes of you.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:yes, and my ears are NOT picky ... they just want something open and clear and not muddy. And what i DO *hear* is crap with high gain.Mr. Tingle wrote: hear hear
and as far as i remember its a public forum so bug off please
I think you ought to be honest and admit you've put a damper on this thread (somewhat). Are you sure there was not another way of expressing yourself?
Check out almost all of this thread and all the last big thread on FA2 and you will find loads of criticism that is well put and changed FA2 for the better. Your comments just sound like attack and sour grapes
Again, people have been critical and changed FA2, but the way they did it was with respect and enthusiasum. Take a moment to look at the picture as a whole, I think you'll find your in the minority as to how your comments were recieved. Are you sure it is the hypersensitivity of this thread, or maybe, just maybe it could be *you* being belligerent.
To my mind Oldgeezer just called a spade a spade

@OldGeezer: nice tone buddy! I wouldnt mind a link for the fxp and some info on your setup (guitar/pre/interface).
I'm not seeking metal tones so with this last clip things started sounding interresting for me. Nice job guys

Another thing I am noticing more listening to the clips is! Darn I need to fix the noise gate (will most likely release v2.0 first, but will fix none the less)

JBM Dont give up yet! Im still workin on it...dammit whenever i get the top end to sound the same as your mp3, the bottom end is too soft, and when i change the amp/cab/distortion type - the top end is wrong
but i am making progress - i will get there dont give up on me yet
and i for one think the opinion of one person is important, and if i can be involved in helping one person find the tone they want from FA then thats good. This aint an impersonal corporation

Nothing wrong with that, but it was taking over the theme of the thread, which is beta-testing (finding bugs). I'm not sure that a dislike of the sound qualifies as a bug (especially when it's way ahead of its free predescesor), that's all.
Oh, and Fretted, if it matters at all, I'm running Sonar in ASIO mode at 24bit/48000. It happens with both Kontakt 2 samples and my now obselete plugsound guitar sampler, so the sampler isn't the problem. And it does it even though Sonar maxes out at 30% CPU usage (though I have got to remember to keep task manager open and see if it records a spike).
I'll let you know if I uncover/intuit anything useful.

zeoy, here's the fxp. http://stashbox.org/uploads/1152834012/tremelo.FXP It's a variation of the Plain Jane preset and not renamed.
BTW. That little jam was based on a Bob Wills tune called Twin Guitar boogie. It's not what I play all the time, but I'm a fan of that old sound and have all the respect in the world for those old swing players.
I used a Gibson 135 hollow body into a $120 dollar tapco 6306 (the choice of champions) into Reaper. No eq or compression or anything else outside of freeamp 2. I normally record with a fender vibrolux the old fashioned way, but with a 2 year old in the house, I'm doing most everything with headphones. Shhhhhh.
Thanks,
Garywayne

Yeah! And the prize could be a free copy of FreeAmp2 when it gets out of beta!!!OldGeezer wrote:matthewjumps wrote:truemaybe we should make a new "Make this tone for JBM in Freeamp 2 competetion" thread
Alternatively, you could call it the "FreeAmp Authentic Amp Preset Contest" or something. That could get fun.
