Looking at Omnisphere 2.0 I was mostly impressed by the workflow changes such as finding similar sounds and locking down parts of the patch for use with other patches. Stuff like that makes life more fun in the studio, not 400+ more wavetables.

Why do you say that? In looking at the feature additions they seem to be extra functions that in my mind don't suggest a higher CPU load toll. Maybe some of the filters and effects (like that convolution effect "Innerspace") and expanded modulation options might take some extra horse power, but as always those types of things usually end up making a more interesting sound that does not need as many layers or unison voices.AstralExistence wrote:as with every new spectrasonics release, you can almost guarantee that omnispere 2 is gonna melt some cores.quantum7 wrote:I sure hope the CPU hit isn't as bad as I fear it might be, though. Also, I hope that Eric will let the VIP's purchase the update a few days before April 30th.....because Spectrasonics server is going to be obliterated that day!!!!
i don't think people realize how much cpu this thing is going to take.

In the Spectrasonics 2 Interface Tour (at bottom)
https://www.spectrasonics.net/products/omnisphere-2/
The Enhanced Orb with Attractor mode is in the Window and am wondering if it will be multi-touch capable.
I hope that Spectrasonics 2.1 (fall 2015) will have the Orb and many knobs and slider on the multi-touch resizable window. In short a multi-touch midi controller. I believe the Windows 10 will add several multi-touch features. Will also be great if on the same window as the orb there is a midi keyboard and other creative multi-touch note generating tools?

I don't know what this is based on. All spectrasonics plug-ins barely touch the cpu unless you stack the hell out of it. A regular preset in Omni is a single part. The cpu usage is very low. Stack up 8 different presets and obviously you'll cpu comparable to stacking 8 synth plug-ins. I don't see the added features here changing the cpu performance of Omnisphere much at all. Unless they have some crazy new filter algorithm or something.AstralExistence wrote:as with every new spectrasonics release, you can almost guarantee that omnispere 2 is gonna melt some cores.quantum7 wrote:I sure hope the CPU hit isn't as bad as I fear it might be, though. So yeah I think I am likely one of those who accurately don't "realize" that this will be a cpu hog, since it almost certainly won't be.

Actually, that might disappoint me. The one thing that I criticize about Omnisphere is the sound quality of the analog synth. When you sweep modulation such as sync or other oversampled stuff, you can hear aliasing, a lot more aliasing than with a U-He synth or Massive, for example. In fact, unless they improved the analog engine in this regard, I won't be using the analog synth stuff at all, just as I don't use it now, because I tend to use patches that have a lot of high-frequency modulations. I was hoping to hear that they were increasing the amount of oversampled features and zero-delay feedback filters, etc.
On the other hand, it sounds to me like Omnisphere is going to start competing with Kontakt now for some new library love from third parties. So I'll certainly be enjoying the sampled stuff as I do now.

They said this is the first in their line of V2 products and it looks like the post below you may be alluding to somethinghibidy wrote:Very disappointed there is never going to be an RMX update (let's face it, if not by now, never)
