This sounds a little bit cheesy for me, not sure wether it were the presets or the synth overall?
Listen here www.pulsarmodular.com it sounds something different to me
Possible the old ARP or MOOG discussion again in 2016, only 50 years later, sorry?

It looks nice visually, but I'm not hearing anything super groundbreaking as far as modular VA synthesis goes..
Actually, I think Reaktor6 blocks sounds better in comparison to the above video.

I agree with that. I don't have a Eurorack / bunch of Doepfer modules to compare the sound to, so I can't say whether it is authentic or not.V0RT3X wrote:It looks nice visually, but I'm not hearing anything super groundbreaking as far as modular VA synthesis goes..

I guess the corollary of that is that if it is a very accurate emulation then I am not enthused about owning the equivalent hardware either at any point in the future (pretty unlikely anyway for other reasons); to be fair, I have heard hardware owning others on here say that the Doepfer modules are not the greatest and that the interest lies in the third party (hardware) modules.
I appreciate that Softube's aim here is to provide a framework/API for the manufacturers of these to add to the system, but that leaves me wondering where all the expertise in DSP analog modelling is going to come from for this, when there are so few devs out there who are really good at this.
Given that I am unlikely ever to own the hardware, I do look forward to hearing more and demoing in the future, but at the moment the jury is out for me on this, admittedly, limited listen. Thanks for posting it though.

It may not have a distinctive sound per se, and that demo is the sound of the poster of it? I mean- MAX and Flowstone, Reaktor, Reason,TassMan and Nord Modular- they sorta have very diverse sound design possibilities. I imagine this could be the same? I will have to try this myself sometime. I think this paradigm is a good idea.
I wonder what I want in here

I do have a bunch of Doepfer modules, but not that particular filter. In general, I feel that the basic Doepfer oscillators are fine, but nothing particularly amazing. I definitely prefer their Curtis oscillator over the standard one. But I generally tend to go to other sound sources such as Harvestman, Plan B, or the truly massive Livewire AFG oscillator. Some of the basic Doepfer filters are also kind of meh... the A-120 is one of the only modules I've ever sold. That said, their original multimode filter still sounds pretty decent, and I love some of the other ones, especially their Wasp filter.
More to the point, that video seemed like it was only intended to demonstrate how the system holds up under feedback, which is usually where most emulations fall apart. In that respect, it seemed to do fairly well. But I really don't think you should use that demonstration as any sort of indication of what the whole plugin sounds like or what it is capable of. It can be whatever you want it to be. And unlike the smallish 6U Doepfer Basic System II which I started out with in 1996, you can add as many detuned oscillators as you want!

Not my type of sound. Honestly I find it aweful. Blocks and Plsarmodular are far more interesting and pleasing.

Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

I think you miss the point of that demo. The Pulsar demos sound good, but I've yet to hear it do a sound that couldn't be done by any number of fixed architecture analog synths. I'm sure Softube Modular will be able to do those too, but they're trying to show you how it holds up to abuse.jue wrote:This sounds a little bit cheesy for me, not sure wether it were the presets or the synth overall?

My thoughts exactly, both on Pulsar and Softube Modular.
Then, why all the bashing for a product that hasn't been released yet? This seems a bit strange, really.
We will find out in a few days anyway.

I hope so. I have a serious addiction for modular synths.WolfKay wrote:Not yet, but some reactions on their Facebook page suggest that it shouldn't be long.
