Well, in their defense, just by looking at the vast amounts of chatter on KVR, the level of interest this offer has created is not what any informed observer could have foreseen.

I think they had a reasonable projection of how well they’d do. They’ve never done a 50% sale on Cubase Pro in recent memory or probably even in its full 30 year history. No one saw that coming, it was such a megaton announcement. And then they did a huge amount of promotion on social media getting Cubase users with large followings to promote the sale. Steinberg have a huge user base as well and as much reach as other industry heavyweights such as NI. In fact I see Cubase and Logic as not only the two oldest but also the most established full featured DAWs. It was inevitable they’d be interest.

Cubase 10 has mediocre effects. Logic has better effects especially the reverb, eq and compressor. Halion Sonic SE has a better more functional GUI than the ageing EXS24. Logic Alchemy is more powerful than any included instrument in Cubase. Retrologue is more powerful than Logics similar Retro synth.

lol..seeing here what's happening..whoever is getting the crossgrade...Do you actually switching to cubase and stop using your current Daws? Just like that.?..or have a few daws and just converting the one you don't want to use anymore....?

when it comes to making the last use of one ...FL Studio is the one that can't be sold ..and
is perfect for the crossgrade treatment...(reborn again for the procedure)..

if you get the crossgrade, you don't loose your license of the product you crossgraded from, of course, you bought it (license..), it is yours. so if you have FL studio and crossgrade; you have FL studio and cubase pro...

I had FL Studio 20 and Studio One 4 already and after crossgrade i still have those plus a full version of Cubase Pro 10. So far I like Cubase and I can notice the workflow is somewhat similar to Studio One

I think that's the whole point of the promo. If you already own another DAW and you haven't upgraded, Steinberg is trying to pull you over into they user base. The whole 30 year anniversary is a smoke screen. My guess is the sales of 10 haven't been going that well. If you are on C 9.5, there haven't been enough changes to warrant an upgrade. Just my guess.

I honestly don't understand people that use multiple DAWs. Pick one and learn to use it really well. Getting yet another DAW another tool in your toolbox is not going to make a change and enable you to make that great new thing that will make you stand out from the masses. You are better off investing that $200 into a ticket to SXSW and trying to meet people and make contacts.

Getting yet another DAW another tool in your toolbox is not going to make a change and enable you to make that great new thing that will make you stand out from the masses. You are better off investing that $200 into a ticket to SXSW and trying to meet people and make contacts.

There are a number of reasons why somebody might want to work with multiple DAWs. First of all, certain things can only be done in certain DAWs. Between FL Studio. Studio One and Cubase, Cubase is the only one that can handle multichannel audio while FL Studio has a very particular workflow that works extremely well for electronic music, for example. Second, I found it very valuable to switch workflows from time to time. I mainly use Ableton, but if I stick with Ableton too much I start to creating very "loopy" music because of its emphasis on the session view approach. Switching to a purely linear DAW for a few tracks was very beneficial for me. And then you sometimes need to use different DAWs because the people you work with use different DAWs. I have a colleague who creates everything in DIgital Performer which is a DAW I do not yet have and plan to pick up in the not too distant future. And finally, believe it or not, it can be fun to switch DAWs once in a while.

I agree, which is one reason why I am questioning my participation in this. But, as I said, I am preparing for a possible post-Apple future, and Logic is Apple. I love Logic, it has to be the best deal out there if you buy into their business model. I am becoming increasingly disenchanted with them, and wary, too. It's not the same company it was when I first used a Mac 30 years ago.

It appears to be the full product from my install on the about screen which I have just installed and activated with no problems, it just shows "about Cubase Pro", and gives the version number, there is no mention of a crossgrade. It did say "Cubase Pro competitive crossgrade" on the box it came in (the box contained the dongle and registration code) but upon activation its Cubase Pro 10 full.

At the same time you are wrong.

I have made music for the past 30 years because I have to make music. I never have, and never will, use music to make money. Before I got into computers I had guitars and a piano (recently learnt the violin).

For me its a need, like eating - not about becoming famous or making money. In fact I rarely let anyone hear my music, its just for my listening. So whatever "SXSW" is I have no need for it.

You are right about multiple DAWs, its not very productive - and one dayyyyyyyyyyyyy I will get productive.

Sometimes a little inspiration and motivation from new tools can do wonders...

That said, i won't go back to Cubase. Every time i did, i appreciated Studio One afterwards...
