I feel the same. If they would have updated the extremely sluggish display I would have bought the new model immediately. But it's a cool new look.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 4:22 pm Deepmind X appears to be an opportunity wasted.
Just a Juno style colour scheme makeover that third party sellers have offered in sticker form for yonks. Not even added a super quick mod like opening up the great internal FX to external audio - saw someone do it in YT and is literally just one port plus soldering in a couple of wires.

As part of my ongoing fixation with stupidly cheap audio devices off AliExpress, ) I built one of these 80pence FM radio board. My first SMD soldering evar.
I also have the silly notion that a handful of these with the swtiches replaced by an Arduino could perform something analogous to Cage's Radio Music.

I really want to get a few low power FM transmitters and do a sound collage thing where you get a small personal receiver and the sounds change as you move through a space. It would be cool to have something that could control the receivers via MIDI or something too.whyterabbyt wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 9:09 am As part of my ongoing fixation with stupidly cheap audio devices off AliExpress, ) I built one of these 80pence FM radio board. I found an Eventide TimeFactor for $160 so I snatched it up.
I ordered parts needed to do the Poly-Beast mods on my Korg EX-800 and to repair the EX-8000. Next, I'll be installing floppy emulators on the Mirage and DPX-1 and later a new display for the Wavestation A/D.
It's been a lot of fun working on these old synths. Most just needed new batteries to get up and running but the DPX-1 and EX-8000 need additional work. Just a voltage regulator and a new opto-isolator for the EX-8000 and then few caps for the DPX-1... no biggie.

Don’t like the smooth knobs on the Behringer Edge so I was looking around and the knobs on the Metal Fetishist fit perfectly. I inquired with them and they said they got the knobs from some Chinese company. Looked at their site and Alibaba etc. and didn’t see a picture of the same thing anywhere. Also looked at an American supplier and Thonk but no luck.

Here are a few knobs that look similar to what is on the Metal Fetishist. Not exactly the same.

You probably need knobs for a d-shaft pot but you can use a knob for a round shaft with a set screw. Some people who are more detailed oriented than I use shaft adapters like these but I've never had a problem using knobs with set screws on d-shaft pots.

I would be worried about using a round shaft on a d-shaft. I will keep looking.

Watched a couple of videos on the Crea8Audio Assembler, their new wee mixer thingy. Could be tempted.

I have also been looking at it, it looks perfect for DAWless jams.whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 8:46 am Watched a couple of videos on the Crea8Audio Assembler, their new wee mixer thingy. Could be tempted.
£275 at Juno pre-order is a decent price.
I continue my tour of eurorack modules everyone has owned with a used Acid Rain Technologies Chainsaw. This has turned out to be a fun module as it pairs beautifully with filters.

Indeed, looks very useful (would keep it outside the rack tho)whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 8:46 am Watched a couple of videos on the Crea8Audio Assembler, their new wee mixer thingy. Could be tempted.
Wasn't impressed with the sounds on the drum unit
How original

Looking at the Torso S-4, it was released last year in an unfinished state but updated so it is pretty nice. Might get as a combination live effect unit or sample player.
