This video is a combo video.. I was chatting in PM with Yellukhan about the idea tool and he wanted to see what I was doing with adding pseudo random applied melodies.. So, I made this video about that..

Also in this video I show part of the new Structure Inspector which is going to be part of the re-written structure Browser.

While putting the video together I ran into a couple of issues, one, I noticed you can't delete progressions from the browser, like you can with phrases.. So, that is presented as a feature request. I also found a crash bug related to the structure browser and that is at the end of this video.

If you watch the video on YouTube, in the description, there is a jump time code to the crash bug.

now i get it Thank you! :tu:
in my case using in that way would take time
but
also might worth to try
fill 100 s Apply Melody Variations with the phrases and hit random

Post

Yup, you could do that and use the new save track idea settings, maybe even as a template of some sort..

RapidComposer v3.9b25 is available!

The old structure inspector was retired, long live the new structure inspector! :)

Improvements:
  • New structure inspector with extended functionality
  • Fixed: chord progression rules were not saved after adding a progression to the rules
  • [macOS] Fixed: hanging when copying files into the file browser (when files already exist)
  • Fixed crash when generating a long chord progression
  • Fixed: help is not opened under the pop-up menu

Hello Attila!
Thanks for the new beta!
Yes, the new structure inspector has an interesting design, but I have to get used to it). If you turn off the checkpoints to the already set tempo and scale, they do not work - this is correct .. But how to erase completely more necessary settings and not see them on the master track? I haven't guessed yet))

Post

Yes, thanks for the new beta!

Q: If I have a 4 measure line and I want to turn it into two 2 measure lines while keeping the same chords, how can I do that?

What I've seen so far is that if I shorten a line (e.g. by using the mouse wheel in the new SB) I lose information.

RD - Shorten a Line 01.jpg

Would we perhaps need a new Action: 'Split Line at Playhead' ?

RC - No Split Line at Playhead 01.jpg

Workflow scenario:

1. Import a MIDI file, which makes available a full set of chords (in good order), which RC then auto-chunks into Parts and Lines.

2. User then re-chunks the Parts and Lines manually as necessary wherever the import auto-chunking doesn't suit.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Since we can double-click on a chord to split it, it would be very consistent to be able to double-click on a line to split it.

This would mean I suppose changing to right-click or right-double-click to zoom in on the line. Whatever would be most consistent UI wise ...

Yes , work of a structure inspector seems strange to me. For example, why are Parts and Lines in the Timeline not elastic to change their length ?

Post

I'll also ask again, ala my post on July 08, 2020, about the display of redundant information on the Master track.

Is it ultimately the intent to have the Master track display (only) the summary result of structure inheritance (of scale, tempo, time sig.)?

If not, what is the reasoning for re-displaying info that has not changed?

Feature request:

When zooming in on a part, and then back out, the chords of that part get selected (good!).

Could we also have the loop marker in the timeline also be set to the boundaries of the part?

This could be optional behavior. Some might wish it, others not.

none of the apply melody or rhythm bugs were fixed.. ??

It already does that. There is a lot more to the new structure browser and it isn't quite obvious.. I'll be doing a video shortly..

There may be multiple paths for doing a zoom in/zoom out (?). I'm referring specifically to double-clicking on a Part in the timeline to zoom in to it, and then double-clicking on the (zoomed-in Part in the timeline to zoom out. In this case, the chords of the Part end up selected, but the loop marker is not left set to the same span (once you are again viewing the "composition level").

Feature Request:

I'm not sure exactly what to suggest as an alternative to this, but when we pop up the new structure browser, the fact that it pops up over the timeline and partially obscures it I find to be problematic.

Perhaps the SB popup, instead of being anchored to the SB icon, could be repositionable (draggable) and magically remember the last position it was left in. That way different users could have it pop up where desired, and the same user could have it pop up in different places as needed and/or always be able to drag it "out of the way" when invoked.
