Welcome to the human race. If you step out into the public eye in any capacity then people will relate to you according to what they project onto others. If you are a performer they might demand that you "Play Freebird" or that your band accomany the guest of honour singing her favorite Britney Spears song - even if you are an Irish Fiddle ensemble.ddummer wrote: Or the attitude, Nice start where is the rest?
(gimme more, oink)
If I'm going to buy it then you'll have to throw in a cup of coffee and so on..
WTF?! It boil down to respect. Doing business over the internet would be
to open up for all these anonymmous people that would have a:
"I don't have anything to loose here so let's bombard the company with
requests and all other shit and I might get what I want , EVEN if I'm using the crack because I COULD be a potential customer.".
You would belive how much garbage that will follow just because it is software.
A few months back I saw Donald Fagen(!) stop playing the intro for a Steely Dan song to an audience of ~ 10,000 and tell off a fan sitting 5 or 10 rows back that his repeated yelled out requests for some tune were annoying him. He said something to the effect that "I've been doing this for 35 years I wrote em so I think I'm entitled to decide what order I play 'em". I have also seen Nat Adderly have to deal with an obnoxious drunk from the stage in the middle of a set. There is no place high enough up the food chain where a public performer can escape this shit.
Dealing with the projections or others goes with much more humble roles. Say you decide to teach an adult ed class - whether it is playing an instrument or coding plugins. In your class there might be people who relate to ANY teacher (or authority figure) in a hostile way. You might think that you are there to help others learn something they are interested in and that you have no bossy agenda but it doesn't matter: if someone there "sees" you as an authority figure and therefore some kind of persecuting enemy they will give you shit until you confront them or throw them out or whatever. Once you understand that these people are damaged/broken/can't really help themselves, you can maybe not be ruffled so much by their annoying behaviour. They are like children.
If anybody wants the respect or even adulation of hordes of strangers they have no choice but to buy into all this other shit because that is how some of the people out there are built.
(If this stuff is really getting to anybody I would suggest they try something like meditation. The other thing is to remember that we tolerate least in others what we despise most in ourselves. If we understand ourselves a little better then we come to realize that we are not so different - perhaps we have some of the same kind of things going on.)
The other thing anyone venturing into the public eye needs to work out at some stage of their lives is "why am I doing this?" "what do I want?". The deeper answers to these questions typically reveal that the drive to seek attention comes from a place just as primitive and childish as the drive to hound the performer or teacher. The simplistic notions that drive so many into the pursuit of fame/wealth - eg imagining that success will lead to happiness turn out to be wrong for most driven people.
The good things that performers want - mass approval/adulation - also involve massive projections. Audiences are swept up by powerful non-rational processes. The performer who thinks it is about them - that "the audience loves ME" doesn't get it. The audience doesn't know "ME" at all, they just like the image or to be running with the herd.
So what - do we give up all these things and retreat into a cave and meditate on man's inhumanity to man? Sounds a bit dull to me.

So the compressor was scrapped in favour of philosophical musings on the negative attitudes of internet mass consciousness?
*scratches head*
Based on the demos, and the numerous done-from-scratch GUI's I thought it was the most promising dynamics tool for a long time.
All that work turned into vaporware?

I think it turned into personalware, i.e. for his own personal use and nothing further.Kingston wrote:All that work turned into vaporware?
2095-LA is still my favourite compressor plugin, so I suppose it all worked out well enough.

Actually... if it's available for donation, I might go for it, just to keep Daniel working on things.
I mean... CRAP! I still use his TLs Maximizier and mostly prefer it over other limiters, cause it's so darn simple and intuitive.

My work tend to shift....
Right now I'm booked for a couple of gigs as a drummer and I stumbled
across a singer downtown that I did some work for 8 years ago where
we concluded that the timing was perfect so I'm going to produce a couple
of song with her as it seems...
I realize that I use the TLs Maximizer,Saturated driver and TLs-3092-CA
in my own stuff so here we got all reasons to shape up some algos so
they rock like 2008...
The Tls-2094-LEA that I thought was a killer sounds like shit in a mix
so I'll have to work more on that on...
well that is the present situation.

Out of curiousity, how's the sequencer going? And while on the subject, why decide to work on a sequencer at all?ddummer wrote: The Tls-2094-LEA that I thought was a killer sounds like shit in a mix

you're right! i just sold my business (a couple of months ago) 'cause i just couldn't take any more shit and i couldn't start killing people on my doorstep either.shamann wrote:Welcome to business. Open up a flower shop, or a restaurant, or a bank, or a public relations firm, or a magazine, or a maid service and see how much shit you have to deal with.ddummer wrote:But honestly don't you thnik developers suck up a bit too much these days because they are scared shit to be bad mouthed?
Software developers take shit, sure, but no more than anyone else selling something. Don't want shit, don't sell something.
as for Daniel, i don't really know what happened to this thread, and i don't want to bother reading all the stuff. but you have my respect, man. really.

What happened with this thread was that people got bored of listening to
waves and looking at pictures when there was no talk about an actual release
so I stopped teasing people.
I haven't programmed too much on the sequencer lately but why do you create
a sequencer program? Control!
Imagine If I need a slider here or a function there, I just add it.
Can't beat that feeling when you compose right.
